Atlanta Hawks vs. Charlotte Hornets NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Hawks at Hornets—Wesley Matthews out for Atlanta. Bridgers, Cody Martin and Frank Ntilikina out for Charlotte. Quin Snyder was an in-season hire by the Atlanta Hawks and he increased offensive efficiency. Patty Mills and Wesley Matthews were notable additions for the Hawks. Exiting were John Collins and Aaron Holiday. It was a disappointing 27-55 mark for Charlotte last year. They selected Brandon Miller with the second pick in the draft but was unimpressive in Summer League. The Hornets had four picks in the first two rounds of the draft. Dennis Smith Jr. exited the team. A healthy Ball is a plus for Charlotte along with Rozier, Hayward and Washington contributing to a good starting lineup. Atlanta was a poor defensive team on the road last year allowing 117.4 points per 100 possessions. Charlotte head coach Steve Clifford is in his second year and brought over to improve the defense. Washington Wizards vs. Indiana Pacers NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Wizards at Pacers—Gill, Shamet and Davis out for Washington. Indiana has a clean injury report. It was a huge roster shakeup for the Washington Wizards over the summer. Notable additions were Jordan Poole, Tyus Jones and Mike Muscala. Exiting are Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis. This could be the Jordan Poole show in Washington and some expect him to be a stat accumulator. Kyle Kuzma is also offensively focused. Word is Poole was led go by Golden St due to lack of defense. Bruce Brown and Obi Toppin were notable additions for the Indiana Pacers. Chris Duarte exits the team. Indiana had four draft picks in the first two rounds. Talented scorers in Tyrese Haliburton and Bennedict Mathurin were the reasons the Pacers exceeded expectations when they were healthy and on the court. Both teams were poor defensively a season ago with the Pacers allowing 117.1 points per 100 possessions and the Wizards at 114.9 per 100. The additions for Washington are offensive focused. Bruce Brown was let go by Denver for a lack of defense. Play Washington and Indiana over 235.
Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Celtics at Knicks—Al Horford probable for Boston. The Knicks have a clean injury report. There has been significant turnover for Boston. Gone are Marcus Smart, Robert Williams. Malcolm Brogdon and Grant Williams. Added were Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday. Notable added for New York was Donte DiVincenzo and lost was Derrick Rose. New York was strong on the offensive glass last year and this should help them here against a Boston team lacking size. This was a Knick team that covered 17 of their final 25 following the break. Post All Star Break New York was second in offensive efficiency by averaging 120.4 points per 100 possessions. Starting five intact for New York. There are continuity, size and depth issues for Boston. Play New York Knicks +3.5.
Houston Rockets vs. Orlando Magic NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Rockets at Magic—Eason and Oladipo out for Houston. Kevon Harris out and Gary Harris questionable for the Magic. Houston added some notables to their roster like Fred VanVleet, Dillon Brooks, Jeff Green, Jock Landale and Aaron Holiday. Exiting is KJ Martin. Ime Udoka is in his first season as head coach. VanVleet and Brooks have issues shooting. The Rockets picked up two first round picks in Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore. Whitmore shined in the Summer League. Orlando is filled with young talent. This team has been decimated by injuries the past two seasons and we seldom got a good look at their potential. There is lots to like in this starting five with Banchero, Wagner, Suggs, Fultz and Carter. The Rockets veteran addition and massive upgrade in coaching the difference here. Still question marks about the Magic’s offense to cover more than one possession. Play Houston +4.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Cavaliers at Nets—Garland is probable for Cleveland with Wade doubtful. Rubio and Allen are out. Whitehead is out for Brooklyn. Max Strus, Georges Niang and Ty Jerome were notable additions for Cleveland. Robin Lopez and Damian Jones exit. The pickup of Niang and Strus helps the Cavaliers improve on three-point shooting. Brooklyn added Dennis Smith Jr. and the exciting are Patty Mills and Darius Bazley. They did draft two first rounders late in the draft and added a pick in the second round. The lack of size for Brooklyn created issues scoring inside and rebounding. Brooklyn shot poorly from three and didn’t have the luxury of consistent inside scoring. The Cavaliers were sixth in defensive efficiency post All Star break. Play Cleveland and Brooklyn under 221.
Detroit Pistons vs. Miami Heat NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Pistons at Heat—Bogdanovic, Livers and Morris out for Detroit. Highsmith and Richardson out for Miami. The Pistons added Joe Harris and Monte Morris in the offseason. Gone are Diallo and Corey Joseph. They selected two first round picks. Cade Cunningham has superstar potential but has played in just half his games the past two seasons. Monty Morris is a coaching upgrade. When Miami lost the 7 vs. 8 play in game they found themselves playing the winner of the 9 vs. 10 spot for entry into the playoffs. After securing a spot in the playoffs they won the East but lost in the Finals to the Nuggets. This was a team that underperformed in the regular season finishing at 44-38. Miami picked up Josh Richardson and Thomas Bryant. Notables leaving were Max Strus and Gabe Vincent. They picked Jaime Jaquez with their first-round pick. This is a veteran Heat team that went deep into the playoffs, and it has been 4.5 months since their loss to the Nuggets. With a healthy Pistons team will trust their offense to do their part here. Post All Star Break the Pistons were 21st in defensive efficiency by allowing 116.9 points per 100 possessions. Play Detroit and Miami over 219.5.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Timberwolves at Raptors—Clark and McDaniels out for Minnesota. Toronto core players are healthy. Minnesota added Shake Milton and Troy Brown in the offseason. Notable exiting was Taurean Prince. There wasn’t much roster turnover for a team that finished 44-45 and lost in five games in the first round of the playoffs. The starting lineup for the Timberwolves produced positive ratings but their bench shooting dragged the team down. Toronto adds Dennis Schroder and Jalen McDaniels. Fred VanVleet exits. Siakam is on a contract year and OG Anunoby has a player option to leave after the season. The word on the Raptors is to force them into halfcourt offense where they are not efficient. Darko Rajakovic enters his first year as head coach. Three-point shooting is an issue for the Raptors and their additions won’t help much. With a healthy Towns will prefer the Timberwolves here and a team with more continuity. Play Minnesota -1.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Thunder at Bulls—Oklahoma City core players healthy. Zach Levine questionable for Chicago. OKC added notable Davis Bertans. The exiting players are Dario Saric and Jared Butler. They did add Cason Wallace with the tenth pick in the draft. The Thunder have been good to bettors covering over 59% the past two years. Oklahoma City needs to get scoring with SGA off the court. Chet Holmgren is healthy. Chicago adds Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig. Notable’s exiting are Patrick Beverly and Javonte Green. DeRozan is on an expiring contract. Prefer the combination of SGA and Giddey at the guard position and Dort at forward. Chicago did not shoot many three’s and scoring inside will be tough against the Thunder. Play Oklahoma City +1.5.
New Orleans Pelicans vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Pelicans at Grizzlies—Alvarado, Marshall and Murphy out for New Orleans. Aldama, Clarke and Morant out for Memphis. Cody Zeller was added to the Pelicans. Jaxon Hayes and Josh Richardson exit. New Orleans has suffered through cluster injuries the past few seasons. This was an efficient team with McCollum, Ingram and Zion on the court together and played fast. Memphis added Marcus Smart and Isiaah Todd and lost Dillon Brooks. Ja Morant will serve a 25-game suspension to start the season. Smart has shot poorly from three in his career. With McCollum, Zion and Ingram healthy together the check mark is on the Pelicans. Play New Orleans +1.
Sacramento Kings vs. Utah Jazz NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Kings at Jazz—Lyles out for Sacramento with Duarte questionable. Utah has a clean injury report. Exiting Sacramento is Metu with notable additions of Chris Duarte and JaVale McGee. Sacramento was the healthiest team in the league last season. Sacramento was solid offensively but the defense at home must improve. Utah adds John Collins and Azubuike exits. There was not much turnover to core players on this Jazz team. The troubling part if the team went 8-14 straight up after the All Star Break and sat 25th in offensive efficiency by averaging 111.5 points per 100 possessions. Defensively they sat 19th by allowing 115.7 points per 100 possessions. Post All Star Break the Kings led the NBA in offensive efficiency by averaging 121.6 points per 100 possessions. Buth they were 24th in defensive efficiency by allowing 117.8 points per 100 possessions. Play Sacramento and Utah over 236.5.
Dallas Mavericks vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Mavericks at Spurs—Doncic and Hardy are questionable for Dallas with Powell probable. Graham out for Portland with Collins being probable. Heavy roster turnover for Dallas. Notables added were Grant Williams and Seth Curry. Leaving the team are Justin Holiday, Frank Ntilikina, Christian Wood, Markieff Morris, Reggie Bullock and Davis Bertans. Mavs went 9-18 after acquiring Kyrie Irving and missed the play in tournament. The key is having Doncic and Irving on the court together. Grant Williams brings much needed defense and rebounding. San Antonio added veterans Reggie Bullock and Cedi Osman. Bates-Diop and Langford. The first pick in the draft Victor Wembanyama makes his debut and shot poorly from three last year and will lineup in the forward position. San Antonio defense the concern here with Webanyama not in the center position. Doncic did not feel sore on Tuesday which helps his cause to play in the opener. Doncic/Irving on the court together improves the scoring. Spurs defense will still be bad. Play Dallas and San Antonio over 230.
Portland Trailblazers vs. LA Clippers NBA Pick Prediction 10/25/2023
Trailblazers at Clippers—Wainwright out for Portland. Mann and Primo out for Los Angeles with Hyland questionable. Portland acquired Ayton, Robert Williams, and Malcolm Brogdon. Damian Lillard and Drew Eubanks are the notables leaving. They did have two first round picks including Scoot Henderson with the number three pick in the draft. Simons, Sharpe and Henderson will be a young and fast back court. The Clippers added K.J. Martin and lost Eric Gordon. Not much roster turnover here. A healthy Leonard and George were the key for the season as they were great together on the court. There is good depth off the bench. Portland’s youth movement will lead to some excitement offensively and some nights where the defense is missing. This is one of those nights when they face a team with continuity. Will be a lot of points scored with George and Leonard on the court together. Play Portland and Los Angeles over 227.
