Northwestern vs. Rutgers College Football Pick Prediction 9/3/2023
Northwestern at Rutgers 12PM ET—David Braun enters his first season as head coach for Northwestern. The Wildcats finished 1-11 in 2022 and return four starters on offense with eight to the defense. The team tanked offensively last year by averaging 13.8 points and 335 yards per game. On defense the Wildcats allowed opponents 28 points and 375 yards per game. They lost their top running back and top three receivers from a year ago. Quarterback Ryan Hilinski returned. But Cincinnati transfer Ben Bryant will start at quarterback. Two starters return to the offensive line with experience defensively in the back seven. Greg Schiano is in his fourth year as head coach of Rutgers. Scarlet Knights went 4-8 last year and returned six starters on offense with eight to the defense. Struggles offensively continued in 2022 as the team produced 17.4 points and 282 yards per game last season. On defense they allowed 29 points and 350 yards a game. Scarlet Knights returned their top four rushers but lost their top two receivers. Both quarterbacks return that saw significant action in 2022. Sophomore Gavin Wimsatt will start at quarterback. Three starters are back on the offensive line with experience on all levels of defense. Bryant put up good numbers in 2021 with Eastern Michigan and last year at Cincinnati. Oregon St vs. San Jose St College Football Pick Prediction 9/3/2023
Oregon St at San Jose St 3:30PM ET—Jonathan Smith is in his sixth year as head coach for Oregon St. The Beavers went 10-3 in 2022 and return eight starters on offense with five to the defense. They posted 32 points and 396 yards per game last year. Defensive improvement for the team by allowing 20 points and 333 yards per game. Their top four starters return as do three of their past five top receivers. Quarterback Ben Gulbranson is back. But Clemson transfer DJ Uiagalelei will start at quarterback. The offensive line returns four starters with inexperience defensively in the back seven including two first year starters on the corner. San Jose St fell to 0-1 after their 56-28 road defeat at USC. Down seven at the half the Spartans were outscored 35-7 in the first 22 minutes of the second half. San Jose St did run for 198 yards on 27 carries. They did surrender 341 passing yards to USC. Uiagalelei will start. He completed only 55.6% of his passes for Clemson last year for six yards per attempt. He threw nine touchdowns and six picks. Inexperience for the Beavers corners a concern facing the senior quarterback Chevan Cordeiro. Play San Jose St +16.5.
LSU vs. Florida St College Football Pick Prediction 9/3/2023
LSU vs. Florida St 7:30PM ET—Brian Kelly is in his fourth season as head coach for LSU. Tigers finished at 10-4 in 2022 and return eight starters on offense with seven to the defense. The team posted 34.5 points and 453 yards per game. On defense the team held opponents to 22.5 points and 355 yards per game. The top four rushers are back for LSU with two of their top three receivers. Arizona St transfer Quarterback Jayden Daniels returns. Four starters are back on the offensive line with experience defensively at linebacker. Mike Norvell is in his fourth season as head coach for Florida St. Team went 10-3 last year and return eight starters on offense with nine to the defense. The Seminoles averaged 36 points and 484 yards per game a season ago. On defense they held opponents to 20 points and 322 yards. Five of their top six rushers are back but only one of their top four receivers. Quarterback Jordan Travis is back. The offensive line returns four from a year ago with experience defensively in the front seven. Daniels is a dynamic quarterback with accurate passing coupled with his strong running ability. He has great speed. Receiving core for the Seminoles lack of experience is a concern here. Just prefer the resume of Daniels in 2022 facing the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Tennessee. Play LSU -2.
