The San Francisco Giants will go against the Pittsburgh Pirates in MLB action in PNC Park, PA, on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 7:05 PM ET.

The second half of the season will begin in Pittsburgh, where the Giants will try to continue their recent winning run.

The Giants momentarily overtook the Dodgers and were in the second spot in the NL West Division behind the D-Backs after winning ten straight matches and 12 of 13 overall.

The Giants struggled during a four-game losing run, but they recovered to complete the first half with four victories in their final five matches, placing them in third place but still in the mix for the NL West Division and a wildcard position.

The Giants may further cut the gap in the standings if they begin the second half against the faltering Pirates.

The Giants will start Alex Cobb on the mound in game two of their series with the Pirates. Cobb was selected for the all-star game after an excellent first half that included a 6-2 record in 16 starts with seven quality starts.

With 89.2 innings and a 2.91 ERA, he gave up 99 hits. Cobb has an 8.6 K/9 rate and a 1.34 WHIP. Cobb has made nine starts on the road and is 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA. His WHIP increases to 1.50 as his K/9 rate rises to 10.2.

San Francisco Giants vs Pittsburgh Pirates Predictions 7/15/2023

The Pirates lost steam throughout the remaining ten games of the first half, finishing just 3-7.

Pittsburgh was one of the season’s more delightful surprises early in the season, with a winning record through the first two months and multiple flirtations with first place in the NL Central.

The Pittsburgh Pirates significantly cooled off and are currently in fourth place, eight and a half games behind the Cincinnati Reds in first place, as the second half gets underway.

The Pirates’ offense drastically cooled off, and during the all-star break, they had a run differential of -47.

Game two of the series against the Giants will have the Pirates giving the ball to righty Johan Oviedo. Oviedo made just 18 starts this season and is 3-10, but eight of those starts were strong ones.

With an ERA of 4.75, he tossed 100.1 innings while giving up 102 hits. Oviedo has a 7.8 K/9 rate and a 1.42 WHIP. He has a 2-5 record, a 4.75 ERA at home, and a 1.28 decreased WHIP.

  • The total went OVER in eight of Pittsburgh’s last 12 matches.
  • The Pittsburgh Pirates are 1-5 SU in their last six matches.
  • The total went OVER in four of Pittsburgh’s last five games against San Francisco.

San Francisco Giants vs. Pittsburgh Pirates The MLB pick for this game is the Pittsburgh Pirates. One of baseball’s biggest surprises, the Pirates held onto first place in the NL Central for most of the season’s first two months.

As the second half begins, the Pirates are again in fourth place with a losing record.

On the other hand, the Giants got off to a terrible start, and it appeared that it might be another lost season before a lengthy winning run propelled them back into the postseason hunt.

With an enhanced ERA of 4.50 and a raised WHIP of 1.50 away from home, Cobb had some difficulty. Oviedo’s record this year is barely 3-10 overall and 2-5 at home, with an ERA close to five.

He had trouble toward the end of the first half, going 0-3 in his final three starts and finishing with an overall ERA of 6.75. Additionally, throughout those three starts, he gave up four home runs.

On Saturday, the Giants will defeat the struggling Pirates. The Pittsburgh Pirates will win by a predicted score of 8-3.
