East 2nd Round – Game 2, CAR leads series 1-0

The New Jersey Devils are gearing up to face the Carolina Hurricanes in Game Two of the Second Round after losing the first game 5-1.

The Devils are eager to bounce back and even up the series, while the Hurricanes aim to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. The game promises to be an exciting matchup, as both teams are hungry for a win.

The Devils’ offensive struggles continued in Game One, as they were only able to score one goal.

The top two lines, led by Jack Hughes, Ondrej Palat, and Erik Haula, have been the primary sources of goals and assists for the team, but the rest of the offense has struggled.

Jesper Bratt and Dougie Hamilton, who combined for 54 goals and 93 assists during the regular season, have only managed two goals and five assists in the playoffs so far.

While the Devils’ defense was impressive in the First Round, allowing only 17 goals, they faltered in Game One against the Hurricanes, allowing five goals.

The top pairing of Dougie Hamilton and Jonas Seigenthaler performed well, but the rest of the defense struggled, giving the Hurricanes too many scoring opportunities.

Additionally, goalie Akira Schmid had a tough night, allowing three goals on just 11 shots before being replaced by Vitek Vanecek, who is expected to start for the rest of the series.

  • The New Jersey Devils are 4-2 SU in their last 6 games.
  • New Jersey is 2-6 SU in their last 8 outings with the Hurricanes.
  • The Devils are 1-5 SU in their last 6 games when playing on the road against Carolina.

New Jersey Devils vs Carolina Hurricanes Predictions 5/5/2023

The Hurricanes dominated Game One with their offense exploding for five goals.

Sebastian Aho, Jesper Fast, and Seth Jarvis, who have 10 goals and seven assists in the playoffs, led the way with two goals and two assists, but they had plenty of help.

Jordan Martinhook, Jerseri Kotkaniemi, and Jordan Staal chipped in a goal and four assists, while defensemen Brett Pesce and Brady Skjei scored two goals from the blue line to seal the win.

The offense was impressive, but the defense was even better, holding the opponents to one goal in Game One. The defense has been stingy in the playoffs, allowing only 16 goals so far.

Brent Burns and Jaccob Slavin anchored the top pair, while Brett Pesce, Brady Skjei, and Shayne Gostisbehere provided depth and created turnovers in all three zones.

Goaltender Frederik Andersen was also sharp in Game One, stopping 17 of the 18 shots he faced.

  • The Carolina Hurricanes are 7-2 SU in their last 9 games.
  • The total went OVER in 4 of Carolina’s last 6 games against New Jersey.
  • The Hurricanes are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games at home.

New Jersey Devils vs. Carolina Hurricanes. The NHL Pick for this contest is the Carolina Hurricanes. This matchup features two strong defenses.

Both the Devils and Hurricanes are giving up less than 3 goals per game. We expect this to be a low-scoring affair, as the under has hit in 6 of the Devils’ and 7 of the Hurricanes’ last 10 games.

Our best bet is the Under 5.5. My prediction is that the Carolina Hurricanes will win, but the New Jersey Devils will cover the spread and the total will stay under 2-1.
