Vancouver at Arizona NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Canucks: We told you about Vancouver goalie Thatcher Demko was hosting a family reunion in Las Vegas, then mixed reports on the morning of the game had him both starting or sitting.

We had the inside information; his family lives near my childhood home (where my parents still live).

Besides, if you’re Vancouver coach Bruce Boudreau, which goings do you want ro play in back-to-back road games against Vegas and Arizona? Demko vs. VGK; Jaroslav Halak vs. Aruzona.

Did you know> Since Boudreau took over the bench for “The Vanc,” the Canucks have a better record over more than half of the teams in the NHL, including Vegas.

Coyotes: Arizona has tallied 18 goals in its last 10 games — and that’s the good news.

One of those contests was a 5-goal effort against San Jose, so a more realistic appraisal is a sour 1.4 goals/game, with the power play “clicking” at a less-than-stellar rate of 9 percent. Ugh!

Besides the afore-mentioned victory over San Jose, the Coyotes last win in regulation was in Montreal in mid-March. Otherwise, they are 1-8-1 SU (1-9 ATS) in L10.

Prediction: If you notice any true reason to wager on Arizona, the book-maker will be glad to take your money and balance the books. It’s the,,, CANUCKS or bust.

Calgary at San Jose NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Flames: Calgary got through one game with forward Sean Monahan, who once centered the top-scoring line with the Flames. But the longer he stays out, that means more minutes for Top 6 forwards that need less time on the ice, not more, with the playoffs fast approaching.

Sure, Monahan is expected back for the postseason following surgery on his right hip — he injured the left hip last season — but there is more bad news.

In Tuesday’s win in L.A., two more Flames went down: Oliver Kylington (injury) and Calle Jarnkrok (illness). The Jarnkrok illness came so late, healthy scratch Elias Lindholm not only missed the pregame warmups, he went onto score the game-tying goal in the second period.

Indeed, Calgary has been blessed and cursed all season. Are they a club of destiny or an upset victim in the first round of Stanley Cup play?

Sharks: Only four teams have scored less than San Jose,

The last Sharks victory against a team with a winning record came just over a month ago: the Flames.

Predictions: A revenge spot for Calgary and a way to cap a quick road trip in California going undefeated… FLAMES.

Toronto at Dallas NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Maple Leafs: We offer the basics on Toronto only since we have been wrong on predicting this club all season.

The Leafs rank second in goals scored, but just 189th on defense.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe (45-19-6 SU) is in his third successful season, but the playoff problems in Toronto are more than a half-century old, so don’t blame him.

Why? Stupid things happen. Current case-in-point: back goalie Petr Mrazek, who is out with a pulled groin. In today’s age of modern training and physical fitness efforts, what goalies ever pull a groin? Fortunately, Erik Kallgren proved to be a miracle worker (lower case, not upper case).

However, (when this story was written overnight), regular goalie Jack Campbell (2-0-1 SU since his month-long stretch on the injury) was again listed on the injury list overnight.

Check his status before wagering… or maybe Kallgren is fine?

Stars: It’s not only that Dallas is among the league leaders scoring short-handed goals, it’s when they score them.

For example, in their last game against the Islanders, the shorty by Radek Faksa proved to be the tie-breaking, game-winning goal.

Sure, predicting such goals are hard to predict, but that’s the point of the Prediction.

Prediction: We always lose betting on or off the Leafs. We do a little better with the Stars. Not only do we PASS, we will PASS-PASS-PASS!. Of course, the “value play” is Toronto, but for us, there are far better opportunities on the betting board.

Seattle at Chicago NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Kraken: Ever since Seattle hit dead-bottom at 10-23-4 SU *10-27 ATS), the Kraken are now a respectable 12-18-2 SU, which is about 20th in the NHL.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks are 9-15-4 SU (9-19) since around the midseason mark.

Prediction: So how should be the favorite? The book-maker is lazy… the KRAKEN, even on the road (3-1-1 SU in L5).

Edmonton at Los Angeles NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Oilers: If you’re an Edmonton fan, all you can say is, “Oh, no!”

Should the Oilers win here, the probability grows that they will host the Kings in a first-round playoff series… Can you say “The Miracle on Manchester” to anyone?

For those of you under the age of 40 (50?), the game was held at the Kings’ old rink on Manchester Blvd., the Fabulous (Great Western) Forum in Inglewood, Calif., where the new Rams/ Chargers football stadium now stands.

In a 1982 playoff series, the Kings were, literally, being laughed at by a roster full of future Hall of Famers: Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Glenn Anderson, Paul Coffey, Kevin Lowe and goalie Grant Fuhr. Yes, even Wayne Gretky, was amused at how poorly the Kings played.

Laughing. Out loud. On the bench, Not caring the cameras were in their collective grills. Holding a 5-0 lead.

Of course, the “miracle” occurred. L.A. scored five times in the third period, then Daryl Evans scored in overtime, and the Kings went on to capture the playoff series and eliminate the Oilers.

Guess what? Forty years later, should Edmonton win here, the match calls for a re-match between the clubs.

Kings: In Wednesday’s scheduled light skate at the club’s practice rink located just south of LAX Airport, guess what video the L.A. coaching staff presented in lieu of actual ice time?

Prediction: This is a Prime Example on why wagering on hockey is more like college football than the analytics of the NFL, NBA or MLB. Emotion does matter… KINGS.

Pittsburgh at NY Rangers NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Penguins: Mario Lemieux, Paul Coffey, Larry Murphy, Jarome Iginla and a dozen more all played for Pittsburgh in Hall of Fame careers.

Scotty Bowman once coached PIT. Even former GM Jim Rutherford made it to the Hall in 2019, yet was pulled out of retirement to do one thing: teach the youngsters what it takes to hoist a Stanley Cup.

It’s not a coincidence that many have been spotted in Steel City recently, or someone “happens to” watch a game on the road.

Rangers: Little or no success with capturing the Stanley Cup.

Prediction: Again, the analytics people think I am crazy — well, I am, but that’s a different issue — especially since this is a possible first-round playoff series, I will almost always take the experience of the… PENGUINS.

Montreal at New Jersey NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Canadiens: Montreal has been allowed to change their style since this season will end without a playoff berth,

In a shootout, upset victory at Tampa Bay over the weekend, nine different players scored one point. No one had two, but nine had one — that’s balanced scoring!

In other words, the coaches are going to let the Habs enjoy the rest of the season and determine future personnel during the summer.

Devils: The Rangers’ defensive effort against New Jersey was fantastic, not even allowing a shot over a pair of penalty kills.

Although that game was only 3-1, the numbers for NJD regarding Totals are glaring and can not be ignored: 14 of the last 18 have gone Over.

That’s a lot of goals. That’s a lot of not being able to play defense.

Prediction: This could be a game with double-digit scoring. If you wager off-shore, many offer alternate game Totals, so a stab at Over 7 (or 8 at plus-money) is an extremely interesting prop. Otherwise, for North American bettors, it’s the OVER and the CANADIENS (at +140 — why is it so high? Check on the goalies).

Buffalo at Carolina NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Hurricanes (H): Didn’t Carolina just lose in Buffalo in an embarrassing performance? Didn’t the Canes take an array of stupid penalties because they were lazy, while the Sabres but on a strong (well, for them) effort?

Sabres (V): Isn’t Carolina a -380 home favorite for a reason. And Buffalo just beat them in this back-end of a home-and-home series — and we all know how Game 2 always seems to go!

Prediction: Laying a ton of lumber is never smart, and the Puck Line can be risky. Better: find 1-2 other half teams and parlay them, like in a round-robin of four teams into groups of three.

Philadelphia at Columbus NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Flyers: These clubs may be next to each other in the Metro Division standings, but really there are not. CBJ is a full 17 points ahead of Philadelphia.

People always compare Arizona, Ottawa and Seattle in the other division, but it seems to be taboo to “hurt the feelings” of the Flies — call it “media bias.”

For example, Alain Vigneault (8-10-4) was doomed to last as head coach early in the season, yet current skipper Mike Yeo (14-27-7) is hardly discussed,

No wonder fans in Philly are such (bleeps!) — the media drives them to be crazy because they, too, are schizophrenic and/or delusional.

Blue Jackets: Although they lost, Columbus handed Boston everything they had in order to try to salvage a split of their two-game series.

It was a good effort by any non-playoff team in recent weeks. Then they go to Phills and win in the first-of-two in another 2-gamer set, moving back above “hockey .500.”

Prediction: Obviously, the goal of CBJ is to achieve 90 points in the standings and overtake the Islanders for fifth place. They are the motivated club, while the Flyers prepare for golf season… BLUE JACKETS — I would even highly consider the Pack Line if a score of like 4-1 or 5-2.

Nashville at Ottawa NHL Pick Prediction 4/7/2022

Predators: Nashville is just four points behind St. Louis for third place and an automatic playoff berth out of the Central Division. And if they catch the Blues, the Predators easily hold the tie-breaker, as St. Louis owns 10 “loser points” — games played are equal entering this contest.

Plus, Dallas and Edmonton (among others) can both pass the Preds and bump them out of the postseason pool.

Since Nashville’s poor West Coast road trip, the intensity level has risen — and so has the win-loss record, winning 3-of-4, as it looks like goalie Juuse Saros will carry the load the rest of the way.

Note L Saros was not announced as the starting goalie for tonight at press time. And with Nashville playing a lower-echelon team, check to see if reserve David Rittich (5-3-1 SU) is instead in the Smash-vile goal.

Senators: Montreal’s Brendan Gallagher just called out Ottawa forward Tim Stutzle for “embarrassing” antics for actions in Tuesday’s contest.

In great detail, Gallaher stated, “When I was 10 years old, our coach had a rule: if you lay on the ice and the trainers, or if the coach had to come on the ice to get you, you’re too hurt to play minimum three shifts,” said Gallagher.

“More than half the games we’ve played against him, he’s laid on the ice and is right back out there the next shift. He lays on the ice, he acts like he’s hurt, he sells the call, he’s on the ice with that same power play,” said Gallagher. “There’s kids watching, we’re role models, and if I was a teammate of his I’d tell him to smarten up.”

Wow!

Prediction: Other clubs don’t appreciate such antics, too, so the 20-year-old Sens forward better skate with his head up. And revenge is sweet… PREDATORS.
