Georgetown Hoyas vs Providence Friars 1/20/2022 Picks Predictions Previews

The Georgetown Hoyas will go against the #21 Providence Friars in a Big East Conference clash in Dunkin’ Donuts Center, Providence, RI, on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 5:00 PM (EST). Georgetown is in the midst of a dreadful season, which started with five defeats in the team’s first 11 non-conference matches.

Due to COVID-19 concerns inside the program, the Hoyas’ first four Big East matches were postponed. On Jan. 7, they returned to the floor after a three-week layoff but were defeated by Marquette by 28 points. Only one of Georgetown’s past seven trips to Providence resulted in a victory.

The Hoyas are better offensively than defensively, with KenPom’s adjusted efficiency ratings putting them at No. 133. Overall, they shoot the ball poorly, ranking 223rd in field goal percentage. They are, however, ranked 48th in 3-point shooting, making 36.7 percent of their shots from beyond the arc.

On the offensive glass, they’re also doing a great job of giving themselves second opportunities. Georgetown has a high turnover rate since it is one of the most unskilled teams in the country.

It’ll be up against a Providence defense ranked 48th in adjusted efficiency. Aminu Mohammed, a guard for Georgetown, tops the team with 13.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

  • The Georgetown University Hoyas are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 matches.
  • Georgetown University is 3-10 SU in their last 13 matches against Providence.
  • The total went UNDER in 4 of Georgetown’s last 5 matches in the Big East Conference.

Georgetown Hoyas vs Providence Friars Predictions 1/20/2022

The previous 12 days were the most depressing aspect of No. 21 Providence’s season so far, as the Friars were sidelined due to COVID-19. They are quite successful on the court throughout the 2021-22 season, losing only two of their 16 games.

The only losses for Providence came against Virginia in November and Marquette earlier this month. Texas Tech, Wisconsin, then-No. 20 Connecticut, and then-No. 15 Seton Hall were all defeated by the Friars.

On Jan. 8, they defeated St. John’s 83-73 in their most recent game. They are ranked No. 65 in adjusted efficiency heading into this match.

Their shooting stats are not terrific either, with a field goal percentage of 192nd. On that end of the floor, Providence improved by taking care of the ball and getting offensive rebounds. They’ll be up against a Georgetown defense ranked 202nd in adjusted efficiency. Nate Watson, the Providence Center, tops the team with 14.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

  • The University of Providence Friars is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 matches.
  • The total went UNDER in 6 of Providence’s last 8 matches against Georgetown University.
  • Providence is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 matches in the Big East Conference.

Georgetown Hoyas vs #21 Providence Friars. The NCAAB pick for this game is the #21 Providence Friars. I don’t have much interest in rooting for Georgetown, especially when they’re on the road. They’re one of the most inexperienced squads in college basketball, so they’re a risky pick away from home.

This year, Georgetown battled with turnovers, and it only gets worse on the road. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Friars had an outstanding campaign. They don’t win matches based on hot shooting, thus the 12-day gap between games doesn’t bother me. The #21 Providence Friars will win to a predicted score of 80-66.
