The Hawkeyes blasted out to a 40-19 advantage at the conclusion of the first half, gaining the advantage on Kihei Clark’s three within the final minute before failing two close-range baskets.

Jayden Gardner led the Cavs with 18 points and 8 rebounds, and Clark, who had 15 points and 5 assists. Virginia’s offense was productive, shooting 52.6 percent from the field with only five turnovers, while Iowa shot 53.6 percent from the field.

To start the year, the Cavaliers are 3-5 against the spread, including an outright defeat to the Navy as a huge underdog on opening night.
