The first wave of the NCAAB Men’s Basketball 2021-22 preseason openers will include the battle between the Texas Southern Tigers and 13th ranked Oregon Ducks at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Oregon on November 9, 2021, at 7:00 PM ET.

 

Texas Southern ended last season at 17-9 in Division I Men’s Basketball and occupied 3rd place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a 10-3 conference standing. The Tigers earned the SWAC Tournament title with a 3-0 record after they beat Alcorn State (78-55), Jackson State (84-81), and Prairie View at 80-61 in the final round on March 14 this year.

 

After winning the SWAC Championship, the Texas Southern Tigers acquired their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. 

 

In last season’s NCAA Tournament, Texas Southern eliminated Mount St. Mary’s in the First Four by a score of 60-52. However, the Tigers surrendered to the top-ranked Michigan Wolverines at 66-82 in the NCAA Tournament- First Round.

 

The 2021-22 Texas Southern roster consists of 11 seniors, 2 juniors, 1 sophomore, and 3 freshmen. Shaqir Rashaun O’Neal, John Walker III, and Yahuza Rasas will take the lead as Forwards while A.J. Lawson and Jordan Gilliam will fill in as Guards.

 

O’Neal, the youngest son of NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, is not ranked among the top 100 recruits of 2021 Class but he is listed as a three-star recruit that ranked 275th.

 

The 13th ranked Oregon Ducks come into this preseason match-up after successfully reaching the 2021 NCAA Tournament- Sweet 16 level but will try to bounce back after they were defeated by their Pac-12 rival and 6th ranked USC.

The Ducks are members of the Pac-12 Conference led by 11th-year head coach Dana Altman and played their home matches at Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon took the lead at 14-4 in the Pac-12 Conference with a 21-7 overall standing.

 

The Ducks beat the 8th ranked Arizona State in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament but bowed to 5th ranked Oregon State in the second round. The Oregon Ducks eliminated 2nd ranked Iowa in the NCAA Tournament- Second Round but surrendered to 6th ranked USC in the Sweet 16.

 

Two of the seven Oregon players who graduated were drafted to the NBA, two transferred to other teams, and three decided not to return. However, four new recruits/transferees were added to the Ducks’ roster in Guards De’Vion Harmon (Oklahoma), Rivaldo Soares (South Plains College), Jacob Young (Rutgers), and Forward Quincy Guerrier (Syracuse).

 

The Oregon Ducks completed a 13-man team composed of 4 centers, 3 forwards, and 6 guards with 4 coaching staff led by head coach Dana Altman.
