On ground offense, RB Calvin Clamp rushed for 101 yards on 12 carries and landed one touchdown while WR Grant DuBose hauled down 9 passes for 114 yards and scored two touchdowns in the win. LB Tyler Murray led the defenses for Charlotte with 5 solos and 4 assisted tackles in the winning effort.

The Illinois Fighting Illini needs to win this match-up badly after losing their last four contests this season. Illinois is in 3rd place in the Big Ten Conference West Division with a 1-2 conference and 1-4 overall standing after winning just one game at home on the year. The Fighting Illini beat Nebraska in the opener at 30-22 but lost to UTSA (30-37), Virginia (14-42), Maryland (17-20), and just recently to Purdue at 9-13. Illinois tied the score at 6-6 in the 3rd quarter but scored only 3 points in the last quarter resulting in their 4-point loss to Purdue last time out. The Fighting Illini struggled in their offense for 275 yards with only 100 passing yards but outmatched the Boilermakers in the running game for 175 to 38 rushing yards. Illinois posted 17 first downs and 31% 3rd down efficiency with 69 total plays on 4.0 yards per play.

 

QB Brandon Peters had difficulty in his passing for 100 yards after completing 14 of his 26 attempted passes with zero touchdowns and no interceptions. RB Josh McCray led the rushing offense for 156 yards on 24 carries while WR Casey Washington caught 3 passes for 31 yards in leading the receiving group in the losing effort. DB Sydney Brown controlled the backfield with 6 solos and 1 assisted tackle for the Fighting Illini.
