Purdue vs. UCONN Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Purdue vs. UCONN—College football pick is Purdue Boilermakers -34. UCONN did not play in 2020. The team opened 2021 at 0-2 losing 45-0 at Fresno St then last week were beaten 38-28 to FCS Holy Cross. Huskies could only gain 263 yards on their FCS opponent with 89 rushing. Following the game head coach Randy Edsall announced his retirement at the end of the season but after meeting with school officials stepped down immediately. Team has not lost 23 of 26. In their past two seasons the Huskies surrendered 40 points a game in 2019 and 50 in 2018. Purdue opened up at home to Oregon St and came away with a 30-21 win. They put up 401 yards of offense on their PAC 12 opponent Jack Plummer was accurate under center passing for 313 yards and two touchdowns completing 70.7% of his throws. This is an experienced Boilermakers team with nine starters on each side of the ball returning. Purdue averaged 309 passing yards and 67% completion rate last year and should be able to blow out the Huskies. Play Purdue -34.
Ball St vs. Penn St Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Ball St vs. Penn St—College football free pick is Ball St Cardinals +22.5. Ball St the MAC champs from last year return 20 starters from last year including their starting quarterback Drew Plitt. He has seen significant action in four seasons. He completed 65.8% of his throws last year. Impressed how the Cardinals finished 2020 by holding Buffalo to 28 points in the MAC title game and 13 to San Jose St in their bowl game. Penn St is in a sandwich spot after beating Wisconsin and have to play Auburn the following week. Temple vs. Akron—Free pick is Temple Owls -7. Temple has seen some struggles but haven’t fallen to the level of Akron. They do have experience on offense with four starters from the offensive line returning. They have faced the tougher opponents in the AAC. Akron faced Auburn in their opener losing 60-10 gaining 210 yards. They have now lost 23 of their past 24 games. Their offense produced only 17.2 points per game in 2020 with 261 yards facing all MAC schools. Play Temple -7.

UAB opened their season with a 31-10 at FCS Jacksonville St. UAB an experienced team returning seventeen starters from last year including nine to their defense. There is stability in this program as head coach Bill Clark is in his sixth season. They were 15th ranked scoring defense in the nation last year holding opponents to 19.8 points per game getting off the field on third down 28% of the time rated fourth. Georgia coming off a tough opponent as they defeat Clemson 10-3 scoring no offensive touchdowns and held to 256 yards of offense. Clemson was inexperienced on offense with first year starter at quarterback, running backs and receivers. Blazers have the ability to be competitive enough here. Buffalo vs. Nebraska—Free pick is Buffalo Bulls +14. Buffalo is a quality MAC school. They do return fifteen starters back from last year including their starting quarterback. Bulls were third in scoring in 2020 putting up 43.4 points a game. Quarterback Kyle Vantrease led a passing attack that averaged 8.5 yards per attempt. Nebraska is 1-1 on the year with a loss by eight at Illinois and a blowout home win to FCS Fordham. In their loss to the Fighting Illini quarterback Adrian Martinez could complete only half his passes and fell behind 30-9 late in the third quarter. Under Scott Frost the Cornhuskers have lost 21 of 34. Third down conversions were an issue last year and in the loss to Illinois they converted only 5 of 14. Play Buffalo +14.

Texas A&M vs. Colorado—College football pick is Colorado Buffaloes +17. Texas A&M began 2021 with a blowout win against Kent from the MAC. Their have a first year starter at quarterback in Haynes King. It was a 10-3 lead at the half for the Aggies. King threw three interceptions in the win. Only five starters back on offense for Texas A&M. Colorado faced an FCS school in Northern Colorado in the opener and came away with the 35-7 win. First year quarterback Brendon Lewis completed 10 of his 15 passes with a touchdown in the win. Buffaloes return seventeen starters from a season ago. Colorado had a good ground attack last year and bring back top running backs. Game played in Denver so Buffalos have the advantage of playing high elevation and something that Texas A&M will be dealing with. Play Colorado +17.
Houston vs. Rice Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Houston vs. Rice—College football free pick is Rice Owls +8. Houston built a 21-7 halftime lead against Texas Tech then got shutout in the second half 31-0 in defeat. Quarterback Clayton Tune continued his mistake prone ways throwing for four interceptions. Dating back to 2019 Tune has thrown 28 touchdowns with 23 interceptions. Offense generated only 77 rushing yards on the rebuilding Razorbacks on 35 carries. Rice an experienced team returning nineteen starters from last year’s team that went 4-2. They had a notable win at Marshall and played UAB tough losing by five on the road. Last year the Owls held opponents to 18.8 points per game and have a game under their belt for better conditioning for four quarters. Cougars head coach Dana Holgorsen is only 7-14 since leaving West Virginia for Houston. Too many offensive mistakes coupled with poor defensive play going to take points here. Play Rice +8.

Texas St vs. FIU—Free pick is Florida International Golden Panthers -1.5. Head coach Butch Davies is in his fifth season at FIU. He produced bowl teams in his first three seasons at the school. COVID 2020 produced an 0-5 record. Banking here on the Davis to right the ship with his FIU team that returns eighteen starters from last year. They beat FCS Long Island last week 48-10 producing 597 offensive yards with 321 coming on the ground. Senior quarterback Max Bortenschlager was accurate in his debut. Tough year for Texas St in 2020 finishing at 2-10. Defensively they sat 115th in points allowed and 105th in yards per rush at 5.2 per attempt. Bobcats are 5-20 under third year head coach Jake Spavital. Three interceptions thrown by sophomore quarterback Brady McBride in the opener. This program has not won more than three games any of their past five seasons. Play FIU -1.5.
NC State vs. Mississippi St Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
NC State vs. Mississippi St—College football pick is NC State -1. Impressive start to the season for the Wolfpack as the pound USF 45-0 behind 525 yards. NC State has won three of their past four road games. Eighteen starters return from last year including ten on the Wolfpack defense. Mississippi St avoided an upset coming from behind to be Louisiana Tech from Conference USA 35-34. Bulldogs struggled offensively last year putting up 21.4 points per game and converting 32.5% on third down ranking near the bottom of college football. The defenses figured out Leach’s offense last year. Quarterback Devin Leary has his playmakers back from last year for NC State. He was accurate in the opener completing 65.4% with 8.9 yards per pass attempt. Concern for Mississippi St was 2 of 8 third down conversions facing a Conference USA defense. Play NC State -1.

Eastern Michigan vs. Wisconsin—College football free pick is Eastern Michigan Eagles +26. Eastern Michigan is a good offensive team. This is an experienced team with 20 starters back from last year including quarterback Preston Hutchinson who completed 63.6% of his throws. North Texas vs. SMU—College football pick is North Texas Mean Green and SMU Mustangs to play over the total of 73.5. SMU head coach Sonny Dykes returns for his fourth season at the school. Arkansas St allowed 477 yards per game with 312 passing which ranked 125th in college football. Arkansas ST finished at 4-7 last year who lost 37-24 to Memphis last year and were pounded by the better teams in the Sun Belt. Will take time for the Red Wolves to get better on defense.
