Western Kentucky vs. Army Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Western Kentucky vs. Army—College football pick is Army Black Knights -5.5. Impressive start for the Black Knights as they pound Georgia St to begin their 2021 campaign 43-10. They piled up 258 yards on the ground but it was the defense that impressed holding the Panthers to 177 yards. The defense was only on the field for 18 minutes as the Army offense held possession for 42 minutes. Western Kentucky faced an FCS school in its opener. Concern for the Hilltoppers is they return only four to their defense and it will be a challenge to face this Triple option. Also, three first year starters on the offensive line for Western Kentucky. Play Army -5.5.
Oregon vs. Ohio St Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Oregon at Ohio St—College football free pick is Oregon Ducks +14.5. Ducks faced a stern test on Saturday as they got past a talented Fresno St team 31-24. This is an experienced offensive team for Oregon returning ten starters on offense including their entire offensive line. They ran the football 2/3rd’s of the time against Fresno St even though senior quarterback Anthony Brown completed 15 of 24 for 172 yards and a touchdown. This is a relatively inexperienced Ohio St team with seven starters returning on offense and only five to the defense. They did give up 31 points to Minnesota along with 408 yards in their opener. Buckeyes defense was on the field for 38 minutes in their win against the Golden Gophers. Plus, Ducks possess a lot more speed than Minnesota. Play Oregon +14.5.
South Carolina vs. East Carolina Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
South Carolina vs. East Carolina—Free pick is South Carolina Gamecocks +2. East Carolina look bad in their 33-19 defeat to Appalachian St. Don’t be fooled by the final score as the Pirates were down 33-9 eight minutes into the final quarter. Appalachian St piled up 487 yards on the Pirates defense with 226 rushing for 6.3 yards per rush. East Carolina defense didn’t look improved from the 2020 team that finished 101st in scoring defense and near the bottom in opponents completion percentage and yards per rush attempt. South Carolina pounded FCS school Eastern Illinois in their opener 46-0. Gamecocks piled up 258 rushing yards on Eastern Illinois in their opener in their ground and pound approach. That will work here against a soft East Carolina defense. SEC strength and size a factor as well on the lines. Play South Carolina +2.
Illinois vs. Virginia Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Illinois vs. Virginia—College football pick Virginia Cavaliers -10. Virginia returns eight starters back on offense including Brenan Armstrong who played well in the opener against William & Mary. Armstrong has many of his playmakers back and four starters on the offensive line. Their offense last year produced 423 yard a game with 31 points. Bad showing for Illinois dropping a 37-30 home defeat to UTSA. Fighting Illini defense surrendered 497 yards with 280 yards passing to the Roadrunners. Illinois penalized seven times in that loss. Illinois had some brutal losses late last year on the road dropping by 35 at Penn St and 18 at Northwestern. Play Virginia -10.
Stanford vs. USC Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Stanford vs. USC—College football free pick is Stanford Cardinal +17.5. Stanford had an awful showing at Kansas St in their opener but that was a look ahead spot for their PAC 12 opener against the Trojans. They have covered five of their past seven against the Trojans. Cardinal did defend the pass well against the Wildcats. Stanford coach David Shaw was disappointed with their execution against Kansas St so expect improvement in Game 2. USC was only up on San Jose St 13-7 two minutes into the fourth quarter. Trojans did allow 308 yards passing to the Spartans. Play Stanford +17.5.
Utah vs. BYU Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Utah vs. BYU—Free pick is BYU Cougars +7. BYU didn’t cover against Arizona in their opener but the Wildcats are better coached and looked improved. Cougars did hold Arizona to three points with over three minutes left in the third quarter so their conditioning will improve in their second game. Cougars showed success on the ground with 161 rushing yards. Jaren Hall did complete 18 of 28 for 198 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Utah opened with FCS school Weber St in their opener. This was a Utes team that lost both of their step up game in 2020 losing at home to USC and at Washington. Defense was not as good last year allowing 365 yards and 26 points per game as they had only two returning starters. Many of those defensive players are back this year. Utes are utilizing transfer quarterback Charlie Brewers from Baylor who threw a lot of picks and the teams underperformed in his tenure. Play BYU +7.
Missouri vs. Kentucky Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Missouri vs. Kentucky—College football pick is Missouri Tigers +5. Kentucky is not an experienced team returning fifteen starters from last season. Teams struggled last year for points and converting third downs. Wildcats will lean on Penn St transfer Will Levis who couldn’t win the job with the Nittany Lions. Only five starters return on defense. Missouri outlasted a good MAC team at home in their 34-24 victory to Central Michigan. It was a balanced attack with 211 rushing yards and 21 of 32 completions for 257 yards and two touchdowns by quarterback Connor Bazelak who started last year. Tigers did beat the Wildcats by ten last year at home and they return eight starters each on both sides of the football. Play Missouri +5.
Vanderbilt vs. Colorado St Pick Prediction 9/11/2021
Vanderbilt vs. Colorado St—College football free pick is Colorado St Rams -7. Colorado St returns twenty starters back from last year. They have covered 12 of 16 at home against non-conference teams. They did move the football for 462 yards in their loss to South Dakota St last week. Quarterback Todd Centeio passed for 304 yards completing 69%. Vanderbilt has hit rock bottom dropping a 23-3 home defeat to East Tennessee St. Commodores went 0-9 last year behind the 125th ranked scoring offense and 110th ranked scoring defense. Commodores only 5 of 15 conversions on third down, rushed for 2.7 per carry and 5.4 yards per pass attempt. Tough travel spot as well for Commodores here playing a late game in high elevation. It was a good defensive performance by the Hawkeyes holding the Hoosiers to 233 yards of offense. Iowa held Indiana to 6 of 18 on third down, 2.5 yards per rush and 4.7 yards per pass attempt. They picked off three passes. Iowa St could not cover in their opener winning by six to Northern Iowa. Lead running back Breece Hall ran for only 3 yards per carry. Cyclones only 5 of 14 on third down. Hawkeyes have won five straight against the Cyclones-. Play Iowa +4.
