The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals will meet in an NL Central Division match-up at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 8:15 PM ET. Pittsburgh came into the 2020 season with a not so good record of 69-93. That was the worst record of the Pirates since 2010 letting them miss the playoffs for four straight seasons. Musgrove is 1-6 with a 7.05 ERA and 40 strike-outs against the Cardinals.

The St. Louis Cardinals’ offense will be led by Paul Goldschmidt after coming off from his worst career year in terms of batting average. Goldschmidt hits .260 with 34 home runs and 97 RBIs. Along with them in the roster are the returning Kolten Wong, Matt Carpenter and Paul DeJong together with stalwart Yadler Molina guarding the home plate. St. Louis put strength in their starting rotation this season, the more balanced and solid rotation in all of the major league composed of Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas, Dakota Hudson and potentially Carlos Martinez in the fold. Jack Flaherty is expected to lead the team and start the opening night after having an 11-8 record with a 2.75 ERA and 231 strikeouts last season. In his career against Pittsburgh, Flaherty recorded 4-1 with a 1.84 ERA and 41 strike outs.

Pittsburgh finished 22 games back of the Division-winning Cardinals, which led the Pirates to fire Clint Hurdle an hour before the final game of the regular season. While St. Louis took care of the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS before facing the eventual champion Washington Nationals under Mike Shildt as manager.
