Atlanta Falcons vs. Minnesota Vikings Pick Prediction 9/8/2019
Falcons at Vikings—NFL pick is Minnesota Vikings -3.5. Falcons failed to cover four of five last year as a road underdog. Atlanta had issue protecting Matt Ryan last season. Vikings have a high sack percentage at home. Falcons offensive line was revamp at Matt Ryan took 42 sacks last year. The unit looked shaky in the preseason. This was a Falcons defense that struggled on third down sitting 31st in the league and they were 28th in the red zone. Team lost their leading running back Tevin Coleman to free agency. Like the direction of the Minnesota Vikings. Kirk Cousins in his first season put up good numbers but the team was too much run heavy. They are looking to be more balanced with their talented at running back. Vikings defense was number one on third down and ranked third in the red zone. They have covered 15 of 23 as a favorite. Falcons have not been good to better on the road failing to cover 13 of 18. They did not pressure the quarterback well last season. Play Minnesota -3.5.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Miami Dolphins Pick Prediction 9/8/2019
Ravens at Dolphins—NFL free pick is Miami Dolphins +5. A tough spot for visiting teams having to play early September games at a 1PM local time start in Miami. Dolphins going with experience in the opener as Ryan Fitzpatrick starts at quarterback. Former New England defensive coordinator Brian Flores debuts as head coach and is moving the defense toward a youth movement cutting many veteran players. Dolphins have covered 9 of 13 at home the past two seasons. Ravens 9-13 as a favorite. Chargers had a good game plan for Lamar Jackson in the Ravens playoff loss and expect the Dolphins to utilize it. Baltimore was not strong team last year in the red zone. Lamar Jackson in his rookie season completed only 58% of is passes and was sacked 8.6% of the time he attempted to pass. Jackson is on the road in a season opener where his pressure will be greater. Kansas City Chiefs vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Pick Prediction 9/8/2019
Chiefs at Jaguars—Free pick is Kansas City Chiefs -3.5. Andy Reid has had his Kansas City Chiefs ready to start the past two seasons as the team is 6-0 straight up and against the spread in September games. He likes to play his starters in the preseason and they are in the most game shape of any team. Jacksonville did not play starters much in the preseason and welcome in Nick Foles as quarterback. Foles was loaded with weapons in Philadelphia to make things easier for him. He doesn’t have that luxury. His receivers fail to separate and the pressure is on Foles that will not be good. Leonard Fournette has had injury problems in his NFL career and starts in the backfield. Only 25% of the Jaguars offensive drives led to a score last season ranking 31st and second to last. Red zone execution was also 31st in the league. That is not a good sign when you face a Kansas City Chiefs offense led by Patrick Mahomes and the top offense in the league. KC scored on 52.6% of their drives best in the NFL. They were second best on third down and red zone. Play Kansas City Chiefs -3.5.
Tennessee Titans vs. Cleveland Browns Pick Prediction 9/8/2019
Titans at Browns—NFL pick is Tennessee Titans +6. Cleveland is the public team entering the season. This is a Browns team with talent on offense and question marks on defense. A season ago the team surrendered 393 yards per game with 258 passing. This was a defensive unit that sat in the lower third of the league in the red zone. Tennessee was a very good defensive team a year ago. They held opponents to only 19 points per game fourth best in the NFL. This is a defense that was second best in the NFL in the red zone. In this line range as an underdog the team has covered six of their previous nine the past two seasons and 5-2 against the spread in September games. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota must perform this season on his contract year and Ryan Tannehill signed as a backup. In the backfield for Tennessee is Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis. Looks like Mariota’s main target Delanie Walker at tight end will get a clean bill of health after missing much of last season with an injury. Play Tennessee Titans +6.
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Seattle Seahawks Pick Prediction 9/8/2019
Bengals at Seahawks—NFL free pick is Cincinnati Bengals +10. Seahawks usually get off to slow starts to the season. They have failed to cover seven and push one in their first two games of the season in the past four seasons. Past two seasons they have failed to cover five of six in September. Despite down seasons the Bengals have covered 11 of 16 on the road the past two seasons. They have covered 13 of 21 as an underdog the past two seasons. Seahawks offense did struggle with turnovers. They lose running back Mike Davis to free agency and promote Rashaad Penny as the second back. Penny lacks size and there is talk of Seattle utilizing their running backs in the passing game more. Seahawks team was a bottom half team on third down. Quarterback Andy Dalton does get off to good starts as the team won four of five last year Bengals were decimated by injuries last season. Bengals have talent at running back and tight end can score enough to cover this huge number. Play Cincinnati Bengals +10.
Indianapolis Colts vs. LA Chargers Pick Prediction 9/8/2019
Colts at Chargers—Free pick is Indianapolis Colts +7. Chargers will be without their most productive back it seems as Melvin Gordon is holding out. They are also dealing with injuries to their offensive line. Chargers have not been good spread team at home with a 6-9 point spread record the past two seasons. They have gotten off to slow starts failing to cover five of six their past two Septembers. They often win and fail to cover in their games as favorites. Phillip Rivers without a productive running game presses a bit and tries to do too much leading to mistakes. Indianapolis now turns the page over to Jacoby Brissett at quarterback. He will have a very good offensive line to work with that gave up the least amount of sacks. That helped the Colts achieve number one status on third down and fifth best in the red zone. As did a very good receiving corps that added Ohio St wideout Parris Campbell in the draft. Indianapolis showed a lot of improvement on defense holding teams to 21 points per game. Colts also improved that unit in the draft.
