Los Angeles defeated San Diego by 22 games during the regular season but lost 3-1 to the Padres in the Divisional Round. For the Dodgers, the offseason was extremely active.

While several veterans were added, primarily on one-year contracts, Noah Syndergaard, J.D. Martinez, David Peralta, Miguel Rojas, and several others replaced Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger, Tyler Anderson, Andrew Heaney, Trevor Bauer, and a host of other players.

Gavin Lux showed he has incredible potential last year. The once highly regarded prospect had a slice with 276/346/399 for an OPS of 745. Lux’s power statistics didn’t jump off the page, but his bat speed did.

But he was at second base. In 2023, Lux will probably take over shortstop responsibilities, which will be challenging in a big market like Los Angeles.

The possibility might work in Lux’s favor. As he nears his peak, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it occur with him because some guys just take the initiative and run with it.

Our first bold prediction is that Lux, the Dodgers’ new shortstop who is most likely not going to start for the NL All-Star team, will be a reserve on the team.
