The West Virginia Mountaineers will meet with the #18 Texas Tech Red Raiders in a Big 12 Conference showdown in United Supermarkets Arena Lubbock, TX, on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 12:00 PM (EST). On Tuesday, West Virginia came close to beating Baylor, and they even held the lead multiple times late in the second half.

After being a no-show against Kansas last weekend and losing by 26 points, this was a welcome sight for the Mountaineers. They are rated 48th and 102nd in offensive efficiency, respectively, and 22nd in defensive efficiency, according to Kenpom.

West Virginia permits 63.6 points per game, which ranks 60th in the country, while opponents shoot 42.6 % (177th) and 31.7 % from three-point range (117th). The Mountaineers also have a strong shot-blocking presence, blocking 5.2 ppg (25th).

They also force a lot of turnovers, averaging 16.9 per game (15th). WVU’s defense struggled against Baylor, permitting the Bears to shoot 46.7 % and 44.4 % on three-pointers, respectively. On offense, they score 68.9 points per game (250th), shooting 42.7 % (255th), and 31.5 % from three-point range (282nd).

While West Virginia’s offensive statistics aren’t very high, the Mountaineers do have two outstanding scorers. Taz Sherman (18.8 points) and Sean McNeil (14.4 points) are two of the team’s most explosive players. Sherman had 18 points while McNeil had 17 points in the previous game.

West Virginia Mountaineers vs Texas Tech Red Raiders Predictions 1/22/2022

Mark Adams did an outstanding job in his first year at Texas Tech. After Chris Beard departed the school for a job in Texas, it appeared like the Red Raiders would stay dormant for a long time. That, however, is not the case. They had a tremendous season after bringing in some significant transfers, such as Kevin Obanor and Adonis Arms, as well as returning players.

Texas Tech found its stride in the last two weeks. Except for a 62-51 loss to Kansas State, the Red Raiders won four of their previous five games. They defeated three rated teams, including Kansas and Baylor, both of which are ranked in the top ten.

Now that their finest player, Terrence Shannon, returned from injury, Texas Tech might improve even more. Shannon scored six points in his first two matches back from injury and failed to shake off the rust.

Texas Tech is now rated 14th in Kenpom, with a 66th offensive efficiency and a second defensive efficiency. The Red Raiders appear to be the greatest defensive team in NCAA basketball right now. They only permit 58.7 ppg (12th), and opponents shoot 37.7% (10th) and 30.8 % from the 3-point range (78th).

In addition, the Raiders ranked 46th with eight steals per game, resulting in 16.5 forced turnovers a game (19th). Texas Tech averages 73.7 points per game (139th) and shoots 47.4% from the field (41st).

  • The University of Texas Tech Red Raiders is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 matches.
  • The total went OVER in 4 of Texas Tech’s last 5 matches against West Virginia.
  • Texas Tech is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 matches in the Big 12 Conference.

West Virginia Mountaineers vs #18 Texas Tech Red Raiders. The NCAAB pick for this game is the #18 Texas Tech Red Raiders. Texas Tech is currently undefeated and has the strongest defense in the country. Sherman and McNeil provide the majority of West Virginia’s offensive production on the perimeter.

The Red Raiders, on the other hand, have excellent defensive guards with outstanding lengths, such as Winthrop transfer Arms. Furthermore, Texas Tech allows only 53.1 field goal attempts each game (32nd).

West Virginia will struggle if they just receive a few shots since their team shooting %age is only 42.7 %. The Red Raiders will win and cover the ATS to a predicted score of 71-59.
