During the regular season, Providence ranked first in the Big East with a 14-3 record. After defeating Butler 65-61 in the conference tournament, the Friars were defeated by Creighton 85-58 in the conference semifinals. They defeated Creighton 72-51 in the regular season two weeks prior. According to KenPom, Providence is ranked No. 48, fourth among Big East teams.

On the attacking side, they rank 32nd while on the defensive side, they rank 80th. The team’s scoring is evenly distributed, with five players averaging at least 9.6 points each game. Nate Watson, a 6’10 senior, tops the team in scoring with 13.8 points per game and is yet to miss a game this season.

With victories over Wisconsin, Northwestern, Vermont, and Texas Tech, the Friars earned 10 of their 11 non-conference matches this season. On November 23, they lost 58-40 to Virginia, their only defeat outside of the Big East.

When it comes to non-conference play, South Dakota State is not particularly impressive. According to KenPom, they only completed the 249th best schedule. They also lost their only game by 16 points to a ranked team at the time (Alabama). Providence is a more balanced team that faced the 56th toughest schedule.

The Friars are a dangerous offensive team, but they also play well on defense. The Jackrabbits’ attack is explosive, but their defense offers little resistance and will struggle to make huge stops down the stretch.
