NCAA College Football Picks Preview Predictions Odds

Friday September 7th, 2018

TCU -22.5 with o/u 58.5

Sonny Dykes is now the head coach of SMU. We saw the defensive disaster in his time at Cal. Last week the Mustangs go into North Texas and gets crushed 46-23. TCU improved defensively last year limiting opponents to 19 points per game. They held Southern to seven points in their huge win last week.

Saturday September 8th, 2018

12PM ET—Mississippi St at Kansas St (ESPN)
Mississippi St -9.5 with o/u 53
Mississippi St is an experienced team with nine offensive starters back and eight on defense. They crushed Stephen F. Austin a good D2 program 63-6 at home.

Kansas St retuned eight on starters but five defensively. They had a scare last week beating South Dakota 27-24 as a -24 betting odds favorite. They needed a rally late outscoring Coyotes 15-0 in the fourth quarter.

3:30PM ET—Colorado at Nebraska (ABC)
Nebraska -5 with o/u 63.5
Cornhuskers Scott Frost debut was held back a week as their game against Akron was cancelled due to weather. Frost has seven starters return on offense with eight to the defense. Cornhuskers are experienced on offense line. Defense was atrocious last year giving up 36.4 points and 436 yards per game.

Colorado got past a bad defensive team in Colorado St last week 45-13. Sophomore quarterback Steven Montez looked bad. Montez was shaky in step up games last year.

3:30PM ET—Georgia at South Carolina (CBS)
Georgia -10 with o/u 53
Georgia is an experienced offensive team with eight starters back. But only five on defense. They crushed Austin Peay in their opener.

South Carolina was an improved team last year finishing at 9-4. They do return nine starters on offense including quarterback Jake Bentley and his playmakers in the passing game. This was a defense that held opponents to 20.7 points per game.

7:30PM ET—Kentucky at Florida (SEC)
Florida -14 with o/u 49.5.
Kentucky played Florida close last year losing by a single point. Wildcats have seven starters on offense back and eight to the defense. They got past a good MAC team last week with an experienced quarterback in Central Michigan 35-20 but not covering as a -17.5 betting favorite.
Florida is an experienced team returning ten on offense and nine to the defense of a 4-7 team last season. Felipe Franks had five touchdown throws in their blowout home win to Charleston Southern.

8PM ET—Penn St at Pittsburgh (ABC)
Penn St -9 with o/u 57
Penn St is inexperienced on defense and it showed as they survived an upset bid by Appalachian St winning 45-38 in overtime. Nittany Lions allowed 451 yards to the Mountaineers.
Pittsburgh lost a lot on offense with four starters returning. They do have nine back defensively. There was no week one scare like last year as the Panthers beat Albany 33-7 at home. Pitt was up 33-7 at the half with no scoring in the second half.

8:30PM ET—USC at Stanford (FOX)
Stanford -4.5 with o/u 55
USC showed flaws on defense in their win against UNLV at home last week. Team allowed 405 yards to the Rebels with 308 rushing for 7.2 yards per rush. Trojans failed to cover last week.
Stanford quarterback KJ Costello had a good game hitting on 21 of 31 for 332 yards and four touchdowns in a spread covering 31-10 home win to San Diego St. Cardinal did drop two games to the Trojans last season including the PAC 12 title game.

10:15PM ET—Cal at BYU (ESPN 2)
BYU -3.5 with o/u 46.5

Cal is an experienced team returning 10 starters on offense and 8 to the defense. They were in control of their 24-17 home victory to North Carolina but pushed the line allowing two fourth quarter touchdowns to the Tar Heels. Cal defense has improved under head coach Justin Wilcox.

BYU pulled off the upset at Arizona last week as an 11.5 underdog. This was a four win team last year. Down 10-7 at the half the Cougars scored the first 21 points of the second half. Tanner Mangum threw for 209 yards and a touchdown and made no mistakes. Note that Mangum had only three rushing attempts.

10:45PM ET—Michigan St at Arizona St (ESPN)
Michigan ST -6.5 with o/u 55.5

Spartans had a scare last week at home to Utah St winning 38-31 needing a touchdown in the final two minutes to win Michigan St allowed 344 yards with 319 passing to Utah St.

Arizona St has an explosive offense behind Manny Wilkins and eight returning starters. So far so good as the team had a good performance beating an inexperienced Texas San Antonio 49-7 last week. Edwards was brought in to improve the defense and leave the offense to his coordinator.
