Notable Mid-week series:
LA Dodgers at Atlanta Braves—

Dodgers clear Roberto Hernandez and Kevin Correia through waivers and get good starts from them in their first outing. LA increases lead in west to five games.
Braves have fallen to just two games over .500 with anemic offense and trails Washington by five games in the loss column. The team is 2-2 on this home stand after a 0-8 road trip out west.

New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles—
Key division series. Yankees have fallen to seven games back of Baltimore in the AL East. Michael Pineda returns to the rotation since April 23rd. Pine Tar issue is a thing of the past as all the attention is on his health of his back.
The Baltimore bats continue to lead this Orioles club. They have scored 10 runs or greater in three of their past four games. Baltimore takes game 1 of this series on Monday and Tuesday’s game is rained out.

Oakland Athletics at Kansas City Royals—
With the Angels slumping the Athletics have built their lead in the AL West to 3 ½ games. Team looks to break a two game losing streak on Tuesday.
Royals hottest team in baseball riding an eight game winning streak. Starting pitching and bullpen have been outstanding. They own a ½ game lead over Detroit in the AL Central.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Detroit Tigers—
Andrew McCutchen hits the DL for Pittsburgh. The Pirates are contending in the NL Central just 2 ½ games behind the first place Milwaukee Brewers. Team needs to overcome inconsistencies offensively.
Detroit has slumped losing three straight and five of their past six games after losing Game 1 of this series on Monday 11-6. Justin Verlander exits Monday’s game with shoulder soreness and will get an MRI.

Notable weekend series:

Pittsburgh Pirates at Washington Nationals—
We talked about Pittsburgh already.
Washington is 10 games over .500 and has benefitted from an Atlanta collapse. Nationals dropped two of three to Atlanta over the weekend but have built up a four game lead in the NL East behind solid starting and relief pitching.

Milwaukee Brewers at LA Dodgers—
We talked about the LA Dodgers already

Milwaukee leads the NL Central division sitting 13 games over .500. Like many clubs have been up and down this year. They won their past two series winning two of three at home to both the Dodgers and Giants before hitting the road.

Baltimore Orioles at Cleveland Indians—
We talked about Baltimore already
Cleveland still in striking distance at 59-59 season to date and trails the first place Kansas City Royals by 5 ½ games. Their 25-37 road mark has been an issue. Kluber has been a stud in the rotation but Cleveland needs more production from the rest of their rotation. Prior to August 10th only 1 starter has an ERA under 4 on the year and that’s Kluber. Carlos Carrasco received a start on August 10th.

New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays—
We talked Yankees already
The Rays sit at 58-60 and are 6 back of Detroit for the final wildcard berth. Problem is the Rays have to pass four other teams. Still 44 games remaining and we have seen this Rays team perform magic late.

Oakland Athletics at Atlanta Braves—
We talked Atlanta and Oakland already.
Braves face another team with an outstanding pitching staff. Their past opponents have been tough to hit on.

NFL Preseason Week 1 thoughts.
Johnny Football impressive debut. Thoughts on Teddy Bridgewater. Dallas defensive woes. Can RG3 bounce back.
Who were the rookie standouts? Thoughts on rookie backs Seastrunk and my dark horse Sankey?
