Trading deadline came and went. Thoughts on Price moving on to Detroit. Lackey to St Louis. Lester to Oakland. We now enter the waiver period.

High priced veterans will be given away for nothing in return. Receiving teams needs to honor full contract.
Any pitchers too fade in the second half of the season? Seems like bettors like to go against young starters who are not used to logging in the big innings this time of the year.

Notable Mid-week series:
LA Dodgers vs. LA Angels:
LA Angels take Game 1 of this series after a masterful performance by Garrett Richards. Angels look very good. This AL West race looks to be the best in the Majors. Angels down by 1 game to Oakland.

The Dodgers have struggled losers of 3 of their past four games as the Giants are now just 1 ½ games back. LA lacks consistency. The big issues for the LA rotation are with Dan Haren and Josh Becket the 4 and 5 guy in the rotation. Frias looked good pitching two innings of relief in his MLB debut and he was a starter in the minors.

New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers—
New York: Yankees win Game 1 of this series on Monday in a pitcher’s duel. New York is relying on a patch work starting rotation but is 5 games back of Baltimore.

Detroit’s lead in the AL Central is now down to 4 ½ games over Kansas City. The Tigers are only 30-27 at home.
Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays—

Baltimore behind their good bats holds a 4 game lead over Toronto entering Tuesday. Team did nothing over the trading deadline to add pitchers.
Blue Jays big bat Jose Bautista calls out management for not improving the team during the deadline. You were high on this Blue Jays team to start the year. What are your feelings now about them?

Tampa Bay at Oakland—

Tampa Bay: The Rays have made a run to move within four games of .500. They are 5 ½ games back of Toronto for the final wildcard spot but there are five teams ahead of them. Price exits and can the Rays make a late run to get in the race in the final days of September?
Oakland loses Cespedes in the trade to land Jon Lester. Can the Athletics make their offense work down the stretch without him?

Notable weekend series:
Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves—

Washington holds a 3 game lead over the Braves in the NL East. The Nationals starting rotation and bullpen have been outstanding this season.
This Braves team has had trouble generating offense They return home to play on Tuesday after an 0-6 west coast trip to the Dodgers and Padres.

LA Dodgers at Milwaukee Brewers—
We talked about the Dodgers already
The Brewers hold a 1 game lead over the St Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. In their past two series they had trouble with the Cardinals and Rays losing two of three games in each of those series.

San Francisco Giants at Kansas City Royals—
The Giants lose Matt Cain to surgery to remove bone chips. They recover from a six game losing streak by winning four of their past five games entering play on Tuesday. San Francisco had trouble against Dodgers and Pirates pitching during that dry spell.
Kansas City is hanging in the AL Central race just 4 ½ games back of Detroit entering play today. The team went into Oakland last week and won two of three games. The schedule gets a bit easier with a three game series starting tonight against Arizona.

St Louis Cardinals at Baltimore Orioles—
We talked about Baltimore already.
St Louis is just a game behind Milwaukee entering Tuesday in the NL Central race. They are 9-9 without Yadier Molina in the lineup as he hit the DL for 2-3 months. St Louis wins in John Lackey’s debut with the club.

NBA Free Agents—Lebron to Cleveland. Where will Kevin Love land? Heat post Lebron. New York Knicks resign Carmelo. Paul George injury and how Indiana recover. Derrick Rose gets high marks from Coach K. Bulls add Gasol.
NFL X: Indianapolis at NY Jets: Jets offense has struggled in camp.
NFL X: Dallas Cowboys at San Diego Chargers: Tony Romo returns after his back surgery.
College Football Media Days. Anything you get out of it that will be useful to start the season?
