Notable Weekday Series:
LA Dodgers at Nationals—
Dodgers still holds a wildcard position sitting at 52-42 as they are in Washington on Tuesday. They dropped two of three at Arizona over the weekend.
Nationals were swept in a three game series at LA last month. They sit 5 ½ ahead of the Mets after beating Pittsburgh in two of three over the weekend.
Orioles at Yankees—
Yankees are sitting at 46-46 after winning Game 1 of this series on Monday. They are only four games in the loss column back of an AL Wildcard spot. Many are calling for the team to sell at the trading deadline.
The Orioles hold a 1 ½ game lead on Boston. They beat Tampa in two of three over the weekend. They are the top home run hitting team in the league. An issue is they sit 26th in quality starts.
Notable Weekend Series:
Mets at Marlins—
Marlins took two of three to the Cardinals in what I thought was the most interesting series coming off the All Star Break. They beat Philadelphia on Monday in the first game of their series.
Mets have fallen to third in the NL East after their 5-1 road loss at Chicago on Monday. They took two of three at Philadelphia over the weekend.
Cubs at Brewers—
Cubs hold an 8 game lead over the Cardinals entering play on Tuesday. They have won 3 of 4 coming off the All Star Break after their 5-1 home win to the Mets on Monday and winning 2 of 3 at home to Texas.
Brewers are 12 games under .500 at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. They are 30th and last in quality starts on the campaign and rank in the lower third of baseball in most offensive and defensive areas.
Dodgers at Cardinals—
We talked Dodgers already.
St Louis two back of the Dodgers and Marlins in the loss column in the wildcard race. St Louis is second in runs scored this season which is quite an achievement in the NL.
Indians at Orioles—
We talked Orioles already
The Indians are sitting in first place in the AL Central 5 ½ games ahead of the Tigers. They dropped Game 1 of their series at KC on Monday as they hook up again on Tuesday.
Mariners at Blue Jays—
Seattle is three games back in the AL Wildcard race. They are 2-2 coming off the All Star Break as they host the White Sox in Game 2 of their series.
Toronto is 10 games over .500 and 2 ½ back of Baltimore. They are seventh in runs scored and in Team ERA. The Blue Jays are second best in quality starts. They hit the All Star Break a hot team but lost two of three at Oakland.
Tigers at White Sox—
Detroit took two of three at home to Kansas City and took Game 1 of their series at home to Minnesota. They are getting production from third basemen Nick Castellanos as he has a .301 average.
White Sox have fallen two games under.500 as the team dropped their first four games since coming off the All Star Break. They scored one run total in their three games at the Angels over the weekend.
Angels at Astros—
LA is 11 games under .500 and have won four straight after a 9-5 home victory to Texas on Monday. They are 10 games behind in the AL Wildcard race.
Houston is 50-43 overall. They beat Seattle two of three over the weekend but dropped Game 1 of their series at Oakland.
Rangers at Royals—
Texas only 4 ½ games ahead of Houston after losing three of four coming off the All Star break.
KC still in Wildcard hunt but have to get their bats on track and get the starting pitching on track.
Giants at Yankees—
We talked Yankees already
San Francisco is up 5 ½ games up on the Dodgers after getting swept in a three game series at San Diego. They are in Boston on Tuesday.
Then talk NBA, NFL, CFB and More!
