Notable Mid-Week Series:
Twins at Red Sox—
The Minnesota Twins at 30-19 have a ½ game lead over the second place KC Royals. Entering play Tuesday the team has won seven of eight games. They are hitting well as veteran Tori Hunter is contributing.

The Red Sox are tied in the basement of the AL East still 4 ½ back of first place. They have lost six of seven games and still haven’t lost much ground in the division. Both the pitching and hitting has been subpar.
Orioles at Astros—
Orioles have lost three straight entering play tonight. The hitting has cooled off some for Baltimore with lack of run production.
The Astros lead is shrinking in the AL West with the Angels beginning to improve. Dallas Keuchel has pitched well for the club with seven wins and an ERA of 1.76.
Indians at Royals—
Cleveland is two games under .500 and 6 ½ back of Minnesota. They returned home winners of four of their past five games at the end that included three wins in four games at Seattle. The pitching staff has allowed three earned runs or fewer in five straight and eight of their past ten games.
KC has hit a slump as they get swept at the New York Yankees over the weekend and have lost five of six games. They have pushed across just one run in four of six games.
Notable Weekend Series:
Cubs at Nationals—
The Cubs are still in the mix at 27-22 and five games back of the Cardinals. Their pitching staff limits base runners and has performed quiet well of late.
The Nationals hold a ½ game lead over the Mets. A win earlier today breaks a three game losing streak. Stephen Strasburg hits the DL for 15 days for a banged up team.
Cardinals at Dodgers—
The Cardinals offense has sputtered a bit in recent games. They still hold a five game lead in the NL Central. They lose Matt Adams to the DL.
The Dodgers holding a 1 ½ game lead over the surging SF Giants in the NL West. The offensive production cooled in recent games especially on the road not counting Colorado.
Rays at Mariners—
Rays are a .500 and in the chase in the AL East. That had a really bad home stand against Seattle and Oakland last week.
The Mariners are sitting 7 ½ back of Houston. At 24-27 this team was pegged for at least a wild card spot by pundits. The offensive production has been miserable as the club is 28th in scoring and 29th in team batting.
Angels at Yankees—
The Angels have shown improvement and are sitting four back of Houston. After a four game sweep of Detroit the team beats Tampa Bay on Monday 7-3 for a five game winning streak. The starting pitching has been good and the hitting is showing improvement.
The Yankees are a very streaky team. On offense they hit for power and not average. The bullpen has put in some good performance late in games. The starting staff is still in question.
Tigers at White Sox—
Tigers fall back to 3 ½ back in the AL Central after getting swept in four games at the Angels. They have struggled at the plate in their road trips out to Anaheim and Oakland.
White Sox occupy the cellar of the AL Central by seven games back of Minnesota. We have seen better pitching performances in their games at Houston and Baltimore. They are 29th and second to last in run production and home runs.
Rangers at Royals—
The Rangers have moved to 26-25 and in the hunt in the AL West. They have won eight of their past ten games entering Tuesday as we have seen their offense come to life.
We talked about KC already.
Pirates at Braves—
Pittsburgh are six back of St Louis with a mark of 27-24 as the club has won eight of their past ten games after holding on for a 4-3 win at San Francisco on Monday. They are number two in staff ERA season to date at 3.00.
The Braves are in the race in the NL East at 26-25 and one game back of Washington. Atlanta does things the hard way offensively with not much pop in their bats and plays the station to station way.
