Notable Weekend Series:
Washington Nationals at New York Mets:
It’s a bad start for the Nationals at 8-13 season to date. They put up 13 runs on Atlanta on Tuesday. They are 25th in the league with a team batting average of .224.
Mets sit atop the NL East with a 15-6 mark at 4 ½ game lead over Atlanta. They have been trading wins with losses since Friday. The pitching has been outstanding at third in ERA at 3.00 and number one in WHIP at 1.08.
Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta Braves:
The Reds are 10-10 and the team has struggled at the plate hitting .223 ranking 27th in MLB.
Atlanta is 10-10 and blew a 9-1 lead after two innings to Washington on Tuesday. After a good start the team has lost six of their past eight games.
Pittsburgh Pirates at St Louis Cardinals:
St Louis is 13-6 and must adjust after losing ace pitcher Adam Wainwright. He is a leader in the clubhouse and very respected. The Cardinals pitching staff is number one in team ERA at 2.43.
Pittsburgh is 11-10 and three games back of St Louis. They have lost two straight in their series with the Cubs. The team scored just two runs total in the first two games at Chicago and are 26th in MLB with a team batting average of .223.
Arizona Diamondbacks at LA Dodgers:
The Dodgers have been a good home team to start the year. They took another hit to their pitching staff as Brandon McCarthy is out for the season needing Tommy John surgery.
Arizona Diamondbacks are 9-11 and broke a four game losing streak by defeating Colorado at home 12-5 on Tuesday. Jury is still out on this team. They have big bats in their lineup but the pitching staff has struggled.
New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox:
The Yankees have been one of the surprises of the league as they sit atop the AL East at 13-8. They are fifth in runs scored at 5.10 per game. They have won three straight and seven of eight games.
After a fast start the Red Sox have cooled down and are 11-10 season to date. They have lost five of their past seven games. The hitting has improved but the Red Sox pitching is atrocious sitting last in team ERA at 5.23.
Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros:
Seattle has won two straight at Texas to move to 9-11. The runs scored and allowed for Seattle rank in the lower third of Major League Baseball.
Houston is the surprise of Major League Baseball with a 13-7 mark and in first place in the AL West. The team is 7-1 on this west coast trip after crushing San Diego 14-3 on Tuesday night. The Astros pitching staff is fifth in Team ERA and number on in WHIP at 1.08.
Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals:
The Tigers are 14-7 on the year. They bounced back from a four game losing streak last week. They team hits and has gotten good contributions from Alfredo Simon, Shane Greene and David Price.
Kansas City is atop the AL Central at 14-6 on the year. They are the top hitting team in MLB with a team batting average of .305. The Royals bullpen has bailed out some crooked numbers that the Royals starters have put up.
LA Angels at San Francisco Giants:
LA Angels are 9-11 and on a two game losing streak after a loss at Oakland on Tuesday. The team is not hitting with a batting average of .226 ranking 24th which is bad for an American League team.
San Francisco split the first two games with the LA Dodgers in their three game series after a 2-1 road win on Tuesday. The team is 9-12 and still in striking distance by 3 ½ behind first place LA Dodgers. They are 29th and second last in runs scored at 3.00 per game.
