Notable Mid-week series.

L A Dodgers at New York Mets—LA a disappointing start just one game over .500 at 23-22 entering the night. Their pitching has been taking it on the chin lately as the club suddenly falls to mid-pack of Major League Baseball in Team ERA and WHIP.
New York Mets—Team sits at 20-23 entering play on Tuesday but just four games behind Atlanta in the NL East. Team has trouble handling the spacious ballpark of Citi Field. Can New York fans like excitement and the natives are a bit restless with small ball in this major market.

San Francisco at Colorado—Rockies back of Giants by 3 games for first place entering play on Tuesday. Giants getting done at the plate are third in the league in home runs at 51 thus far ranking third in MLB. Can it hold up?
Rockies are the top hitting team in baseball in most categories. They have great defense in the infield. Third baseball Nolan Arenado has been a surprise improving his rookie performance.

New York Yankees at Chicago Cubs—Derek Jeter makes his last appearance at Wrigley. Tanaka has been a savior but the club his hitting ranking third in baseball in team batting average at .264. Solarte, Gardner and Elllsbury have been good at the plate. The starting staff has been an issue here. Pineda and CC on the DL. Chase Whitley had a passing grade in his MLB debut against the Mets. Club holds a ½ game lead in the AL East at 23-20 heading into action on Tuesday.

The Cubs aren’t hitting and it’s too bad because they have gotten some good performance out of Samardzija, Hammel, Arrieta and Jackson. Anyone down in the farm who could be called up in June to help the offense?

Notable weekend series:

St Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds—The Cardinals sit two games under .500 entering play. Only 23 homers this season ranking 29th and second to last in all of baseball. Their loss to the Braves on Sunday broke a four game losing streak. This team could be turning the corner?
The Reds are three games under .500 beginning play on Tuesday. Johnny Cueto had put up some great numbers this season but gets crushed tonight by the Nationals as he gave up six earned runs in 5 1/3rd innings. The Cincinnati offense off to a slow start. They are 28th in the league in runs scored at just 3.58 a game.

Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers—Texas two games under .500 already 7 games back of Oakland entering Tuesday’s action. They have been devastated by injuries to their pitching and the latest victim was Matt Harrison. Martin Perez is lost to the season with Tommy John surgery. He is the one this week.

The Tigers swept the Red Sox and were the talk of Major League Baseball. On Monday they lose at Cleveland and with Max Scherzer on the mound the club is danger of losing two straight to this last place Indians team.

Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays—Boston has been a disappointment in danger dropping their fifth straight games as they faced Toronto on Tuesday. Their has been a power outage in Boston. They scored just three runs total in their three game series at home to Detroit where they were swept.
New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox—The White Sox are already eight games behind of Detroit. The club is 30th and last in baseball in both team ERA and WHIP. Starter Chris Sale has missed a month with a muscle strain on his elbow.

Kansas City Royals at LA Angels—The Royals are .500 entering Tuesday. I like their pitching staff. James Shield, Jason Vargas and this kid Yordano Ventura fill out a good starting rotation. Danny Duffly a 1.42 ERA with three starts. Bruce Chen disappointed and hit the DL. Offensively no power for the Royals as the club is 30th and last in home runs and 23rd in runs scored at 3.91 a game.

Mike Scoiscia is getting a bit more sleep this year as the club is 24-20 entering play on Tuesday. After winning three of four at home to Tampa Bay they lose the opener of their series with Houston on Monday. They have won 7 of 10 and the club have been hitting. Pujols and Trout are hitting for power but not average.
