Notable Mid-Week Series:
Cubs at Cardinals:
Cubs are two games over .500 entering play on Tuesday on a three game losing streak where they gave up 21 runs total.
Cardinals already five games in the loss column in first place over the Cubs with a 19-6 mark. They lose their ace and embark on a seven game win streak. Things are going good when you give up 9 runs and score 10 last night against the Cubs.
Dodgers at Brewers:
Dodgers come off a good home stand. The road trip starts out bumpy with a loss at Milwaukee as Clayton Kershaw fails to hold a 3-1 lead. Team is 3-7 on the road and 16-9 overall.
Brewers relieve Ron Roenicke of his job and Craig Counsell takes over a team 27th in runs scored and batting average. You knew it was going to be bad when the Dodgers Split Squad team of pitching prospects in Spring Training nearly no hit the Brewers regulars late in spring training.
Tigers at White Sox:
Tigers tied with KC in the loss column atop AL Central at 17-9. Detroit is 14-5 against the AL Central after splitting a pair with the Royals.
White Sox are in the cellar at 8-14. They are 6-3 at home and 2-11 on the highway. They are struggling at the mound and at the plate. They are last in the league in home runs.
Notable Weekend Series:
Braves at Nationals:
Braves sit at 12-14 after losing five of seven entering Tuesday. The Nationals crushed the Braves pitching last week pushing across 30 runs in the three games.
Nationals mark is 13-14 and trending upward after a poor start. They have won six of seven games after beating the Marlins on Monday. They came off winning three of four at home to the first place Mets with outstanding pitching.
Cardinals at Pirates:
We talked about the Cardinals already.
Pirates sit at 12-13 season to date. They were swept by St Louis over the weekend as their offense fired just four runs total in the three game series.
Marlins at Giants:
Former Dodgers Dee Gordon and Dan Haren are performing well for the team. After an awful start the Marlins are 12-14. The team is fifth in batting at .270 which is good for an NL club. But only 28th in home runs at 15 season to date.
San Francisco sits at 13-13 and carries a four game win streak after beating San Diego 2-0 on Monday. They swept the Angels at home over the weekend and are just 3 ½ games back of the first place Dodgers.
Royals at Tigers:
We talked about the Tigers already.
KC brought a lot of attention to their team with recent scuffles with opponents. They are tied with the Tigers in the loss column atop the AL Central. The Royals open up a three game home stand against Cleveland before the Tigers come into town. KC and Detroit split a four game series last week.
Orioles at Yankees:
The Orioles are just a game in the loss column behind the Yankees at 12-11. The team is on an upswing winner of five of six games. They have allowed just six runs total over their past four games.
NY holds first place in the AL East at 16-10. They had a nice weekend in Boston as the relief pitching was outstanding in a three game sweep of the Red Sox. They went to Toronto on Monday and lost 3-1 as Chase Whitely had another good outing but got no run support.
Astros at Angels:
The Astros are in first place in the AL West at 18-8 on the year. They hold a seven game lead over the LA Angels and Seattle Mariners. They are 14-6 against the AL West. Their 10 game win streak was snapped in a 2-1 loss at home to Texas on Monday.
The Angels at 11-15 played terribly over the weekend as they are swept at San Francisco. Other than Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun the team is getting little production from the rest of their roster.
Athletics at Mariners:
Oakland is 11-16 and is losers of 7 of 10 games as they take the field at Minnesota on Tuesday. They have been on the wrong side of many one run decisions of late. They are hitting fairly well but the Team ERA is near 4.
Seattle at 11-15 was swept in a four game series at Houston last weekend. They bounced back with a one run victory at the Angels on Monday behind King Felix. Team is hitting just .234 ranking 23rd in baseball.
