College Football Big Ten Preview

Big Ten East—

Ohio St Buckeyes—+950 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 10.5. Team finished at 12-2 a season ago after beating USC 24-7 in the Cotton Bowl as a -8 betting odds favorite. Urban Meyer finds out his fate at Ohio St on Wednesday. Seven starters return on offense with five to the defense. Sophomore Dwayne Haskins has been named the starting quarterback. A first year starter who was the backup a season ago. Non-conference games are Oregon St and Tulane at home with TCU on a neutral site in Arlington Texas. Road Big Ten games at Penn St and Michigan St. They get Michigan at home.

Michigan St Spartans—+2800 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 8.5. It was a 10-3 year for the Spartans last year after their 42-17 victory to Washington St in the Holiday Bowl. Ten starters return on offense with nine to the defense. Brian Lewerke returns as the starting quarterback with all his playmakers. Only the center has to be replaced. They held opponents to 20 points per game an improvement from the previous season. In the non-conference the Spartans meet Utah St and Central Michigan at home with a road game at Arizona St in early September. Road Big Ten games are at Penn St and Nebraska with home games to Northwestern and Ohio St.

Penn St Nittany Lions—+2500 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 9.5. Penn St was 11-2 last season after beating Washington 35-28 in the Fiesta Bowl as a +2.5 betting odds underdog. Seven starters return on offense with only three to the defense. Must replace NFL first round pick Saquon Barkley. Quarterback Trace McSorley returns for his senior year with two receiver and four offensive linemen back. In the secondary all players are first year starters. In the non-conference the Nittany Lions meet Appalachian St and Kent St at home with Pittsburgh on the road. Road games in the Big Ten at Michigan and Indiana. At home they get Wisconsin, Michigan St and Iowa.

Michigan Wolverines—+1200 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 9.5. Team finished at 8-5 last year after their 26-19 loss to South Carolina in the Outback Bowl as a -8 betting odds favorite. Eight starters are back on offense with nine to a good defense. Shea Patterson a transfer from Ole Miss will start. He struggled in his step up games and had a bad game at California. Wolverines replace two starters to the offensive line. All four return to the secondary. In the non-conference they open at Notre Dame and have home games to Western Michigan and SMU. Michigan hits the road in Big Ten at Northwestern, Michigan St and Ohio St. They host Wisconsin, Penn St and Indiana.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights—+100000 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 3.5. Chris Ash enters his third season after a 4-8 season. Seven starters return on offense with eight to the defense. Team posted 18 points per game while allowing 28.3. Team completed only 49.1% of their passes. Freshman Artur Sitkowski is the leading candidate at starting quarterback. They replace two starting offensive linemen. In the non-conference the Scarlet Knights battle Texas St and Buffalo at home and must travel to Kansas. Road Big Ten games at Ohio St, Wisconsin and Michigan St. They get Michigan, Northwestern, Indiana and Penn St at home.

Maryland Terrapins—+50000 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total off the board. Team concluded play at 4-8 and missed a bowl game for second time in three years. Head coach DJ Durkin is on leave and likely gone from the program. Eight starters return on offense with five to the defense. Redshirt freshman Kasim Hill is the leading candidate to start at quarterback. All five return to the offensive line. They replace two starters to their front four, linebackers and secondary. Team allowed 37.1 points per game last year. In the non-conference the Terrapins host Texas and Temple and travel to Bowling Green. Maryland travels in Big Ten at Michigan, Iowa, Indiana and Penn St. They host Minnesota and Ohio St.

Indiana Hoosiers—+100000 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 5.5. Indiana concluded play in 2017 at 5-7 and failed to make a bowl. Tom Allen is in his second year with seven starters back on offense with three to the defense. Sophomore Brandon Dawkins is a candidate at quarterback with his entire offensive line back. Six first year starters in their front seven to a defense that held opponents to 25.3 per game last year. Non-conference games at home to Virginia and Ball St and they open at Florida International. Hoosiers in Big Ten travel to Ohio St, Minnesota and Michigan and get Iowa, Michigan St and Penn St at home.

Wisconsin Badgers—+1400 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 9.5. Badgers went 13-1 last year after their 34-24 victory to Miami in the Orange Bowl as a -6.5 betting odds favorite. Nine starters are back on offense to four to the defense. Alex Hornibrook is back at quarterback with Jonathan Taylor at the running back. Their entire offense line is back. On defense one returns to the secondary and defensive line. Non-conference opponents are Western Kentucky, New Mexico and BYU at home. Road games in Big Ten at Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Penn St and Purdue. They host Nebraska and Minnesota. Northwestern Wildcats—+30000 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 6. Wildcats went 10-3 last year after defeating Kentucky 24-23 in the Music City Bowl as a -7 betting odds favorite. Three straight bowl games for the Wildcats. Seven starters return on offense and defense. Clayton Thorson is in his senior season and returns at quarterback. Four return to the offensive line. They replace two to the secondary. Northwestern in the non-conference host Duke, Notre Dame and Akron. They open at Purdue. Other road games in the Big Ten at Michigan St, Iowa and Minnesota. Wildcats at home face Wisconsin, Michigan and Nebraska.

Purdue Boilermakers—+50000 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 6. Boilermakers finished at 7-6 in 2017 following their 36-35 victory to Arizona in the Foster Farms bowl as a +3 betting odds underdog. Boilermakers have nine back on offense with four to the defense. Elijah Sindelar returns for his junior season at quarterback with several of is playmakers back. Defensively they held opponents to 20.5 points per game. Only two starters back to their front seven on defense. Non-conference will be at home to Eastern Michigan, Missouri and Boston College. In Big Ten road games the Boilermakers are at Nebraska, Michigan St, Minnesota and Indiana. They host Northwestern in the opener, Ohio St, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Iowa Hawkeyes—+15000 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 7.5. Hawkeyes went 8-5 last year after their 27-20 victory in the Pinstripe Bowl against Boston College as a -3 betting odds favorite. Seven starters are back on offense with six to the defense. Nathan Stanley returns for his junior season at quarterback with four of his offensive lineman back Iowa has held opponents to under 20 points the past two seasons. They replace all their linebackers and two defensive linemen. At home in the non-conference team faces Northern Illinois, Iowa St and Northern Iowa. On the road in Big Ten the team faces Minnesota, Indiana, Penn St and Purdue. At home they get Wisconsin, Northwestern and Nebraska.

Nebraska Cornhuskers—+7000 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 6.5. Team went 4-8 and missed a bowl game. Scott Frost enters his first year as head coach with seven starters back on offense and eight to the defense. Freshman Adrian Martinez is the leading candidate at starting quarterback. Four starters return to the offensive line with many playmakers. They replace one starter to defensive line, linebacker and secondary. Non-conference home games to Akron, Colorado and Troy. Big Ten road gams at Michigan, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Ohio St and Iowa. Team faces Purdue, Minnesota and Michigan St at home.

Minnesota Golden Gophers—+50000 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 6. Golden Gophers finished at 5-7 and missed a bowl game in 2017. PJ Fleck enters his second season with seven starters back on offense and to the defense. Freshman walk on Zack Annexstand was named starting quarterback. They return four starters to the offensive line with several playmakers in the passing game. This offense produced only 22.1 points per game. Defense has been solid for several seasons. They replace two to the defensive line but all linebackers return. In the non-conference the Golden Gophers face New Mexico St, Fresno St and Miami Ohio at home. Road games in Big Ten at Ohio St, Nebraska and Wisconsin. They get Indiana, Iowa, Purdue and Northwestern at home.

Illinois Fighting Illini–+200000 odds to win College Football Championship. Regular Season Win Total of 3.5. It was a 2-10 year for Illinois in 2017. Love Smith in his third season has eight starters back on offense and defense. Senior AJ Bush is the starter at quarterback winning the job over a sophomore candidate. Offense produced only 15.4 points per game last year. Four offensive linemen are back. On defense entire secondary returns. Fighting Illini in the non-conference faces Kent St and Western Illinois at home. They battle South Florida in Chicago. Road Big Ten games at Wisconsin, Nebraska and Northwestern. Saturday August 25th—

7:30PM Eastern Time—Hawaii vs. Colorado St
Colorado St -14 with o/u 56

Teams met last season with Colorado St earning the 51-21 victory as a -6.5 betting odds favorite on the road. Both teams move the football with 610 yards by the Rams and 512 by the Warriors. Rams return four on offense and five to the defense. They lost a lot of playmakers and break in a first year starting quarterback in KJ Carta Samuels will start at quarterback. A Washington transfer. They replace three to the front four on defense
Hawaii finished at 3-9 a year ago. Four starters return on offense with five to the defense. Sophomore Cole McDonald is the leading candidate to start at quarterback. Only two return to the offensive line. On starter returns to the defensive line and secondary.

10PM ET—Wyoming at New Mexico St
Wyoming -3.5 with over under 46
Cowboys were a bowl team last year who will have nine starters return on offense with eight to the defense. Red shirt freshman Tyler Vander Waal will start at quarterback. They return many playmakers and four to the offensive line. Their entire front seven returns.

New Mexico St has six starters back to their offense and nine to their defense that finished at 7-6 and beat Utah St in the Arizona Bowl. Junior Matt Romero a first year starter has been named starting quarterback with all five starters from their offensive line back. Front four on defense all return as team loses one starter at linebacker and the secondary.
