Navy vs Army Preview
No. 22-ranked Army (11-1, 8-0 in AAC) faces old rivals Navy (8-3, 6-2 in AAC) in the 125th edition of the historic Army-Navy game in Landover, Maryland on Saturday in the game that traditionally brings an end to every College Football Regular Season. These two Service Academy schools had their best seasons in quite a long time in 2024, with both improving so much on offense, both going unbeaten for so long, and cracking the Top 25 polls for the first time in ages. The two teams are a combined 19-4 with the Black Knights lone loss to College Football Playoffs participants Notre Dame and the Midshipmen only losing to Notre Dame, Rice, and Tulane. Army defeated Tulane in the AAC Championship Game last weekend, 35-14, ending the Green Wave’s dreams of making the first-ever CFP. Uninterrupted since 1930, Navy leads the all-time series 62-55-7 for the coveted Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy but has lost 6 of the last 8 meetings. The Midshipmen will play Oklahoma in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas on December 27 (ESPN, 12 pm or 3:30 EST) while the Black Knights will meet Marshall in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana one day later on December 28 (ESPN, 9:15 pm EST).
Navy Looks to Snap 2-game Army Win Streak
Navy (7-4 ATS, 7-4 O/U) started the season off with an impressive 6-0 record before Notre Dame put a hole in their ship, winning 51-14 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on October 26. The Midshipmen are led by QB Blake Horvath, a Semifinalist for the Comeback Player of the Year, and he’s the team’s leading Passer (1,154 passing yards, 11 TD, 4 Interceptions) and Rusher (895 rushing yards, 13 TD, 6.7 ypc). Navy (+199 Moneyline) ranks No. 8 in Rushing with 2,725 yards and 33 TD, with RB Alex Tecza (501 rushing yards, 7 TD) and RB Eli Heidenreich (402 rushing yards, 3 TD, 7.3 ypc) helping Horvath establish an effective ground game in Annapolis. Heidenreich is also the team’s leading Receiver, catching 36 passes for 597 receiving yards and 5 TD. The Middies had 13 Receiving TD this season, so you can see how much they evolved. Horvath (Back) has had an injury concern late in the season but will be ready for this Service Academy showdown.
Navy Betting Trends:
- Navy is 7-3 SU/ATS over the last 10 games
- The Under is 4-0 in the Midshipmen’s last 4 games overall
- The Over went 5-1 in Navy’s 6 Home games this season
- Horvath was the team’s leading passer and rusher in 6 games
- Navy once won 14 straight games SU in this series (2002-2015)
Army’s Deserving Favs in This Annual Classic
Army (8-4-0 ATS, 7-5-0 O/U) has a very impressive ATS record this season and if the Black Knights could have only knocked off Notre Dame, they would be playing in a CFP game after bursting Tulane’s bubble last week in the AAC title tilt. Army (-245 Moneyline) is also led by a talented dual-threat QB in Bryson Dailey and this team ranks No. 1 in the nation in Rushing, averaging 314.4 ypg—47 yards more than the No. 2 team Jacksonville State—with 44 rushing TD. Dailey has rushed for 1,480 yards and 29 TD and passed for 877 yards and 8 TDs and the Senior signal caller has thrown just 1 Interception. The Black Knights backfield also features RB Kanye Udoh (1,064 rushing yards, 10 TD, 6.7 ypc) and RB Noah Short (533 rushing yards, 2 TD, 8.2 ypc) while WR Casey Reynolds (426 receiving yards, 3 TD) is the big target at West Point. Army has 9 Passing TD, so like Navy, they have improved the aerial attack but both schools still live and die by running the football.
Army Betting Trends
- Army has is 2-4-0 ATS in its last 6 games overall
- The Black Knights are 15-1 SU in its last 16 games overall
- The Under is 8-1-1 in the last 10 meetings between these two
- Army is 5-1 ATS its last 6 games away from Home, including Neutral Sites
- The Black Knights are 2-0 SU/ATS last 2 vs Navy
- The Total for last year’s Army-Navy game was just 28 (Pushed)
Navy vs Army Pick and Prediction
For mid-December, the Weather at Landover on Saturday will be brisk but mild (45°) with Partly Cloudy skies and bearded goats in the forecast. Last year, Army won 17-11 in a game that pushed the oh-so-low Total of 28 as the Black Knights led 17-0 after the 3rd Quarter and saw Navy score the last 11 points. Army has gone 6-3-1 ATS in the last 10 series meetings which has seen 6 Unders in the last 8. Both of these teams are much improved, but one common opponent shows why the Black Knights may be the best Side to bet on here. While Navy was shut out by then No. 25-ranked Tulane (35-0), Army ran over the Green Wave with their tanks last weekend (35-14).
With Navy only having 4 TD in the last 4 Army-Navy games, the Navy vs Army NCAAF pick in the Sides market will look to back Army but you better bet it quick as this line opened at (Army) -1.5 and is already all the way up to -6.5 (Monday night). In theTotals market, backing the Over seems the best look as the Midshipmen should get their 13-17 points here with the Black Knights finishing with 24 to 27.
