Duke vs Louisville Preview
No. 9 Duke (6-2, 0-0 in ACC) heads to Kentucky to face Louisville (5-3, 0-0 in ACC) in this Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opener for both teams on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils come off a huge win vs No. 2 Auburn on Tobacco Road (84-78) after falling to the No. 1 team Kansas two games earlier (75-72), so Duke is battle-tested. The Cardinals have lost their last two games, falling to Oklahoma (69-64) and Ole Miss (86-63) after beating two pretty good teams in Indiana (89-61) and West Virginia (79-70, OT). In ACC play last season, the Blue Devils went 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS covering ATS at Home at Cameron Indoor Arena (84-29) but failing to cover here in Louisville by a half-point, winning by 14 (83-69) but giving 14.5.
Duke Continuing a Tough Early Season Slate
No. 11 Duke (5-3-0 ATS, 3-5-0 O/U) has lost to two of the best programs in NCAA Basketball history in Kentucky and Kansas but has also defeated two pretty good ones in Arizona and Auburn, so unlike some other teams, the Blue Devils are playing the best teams before ACC conference play tips off with this one. Jared McCain (76ers) and Kyle Filipowski (Jazz) are gone (NBA), but this team has a troika of big talented Freshmen in 6-foot-9 Cooper Flagg (16.8 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 4.1 apg), 6-foot-7 G Kon Knueppel (12.5 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 3.3 apg), and 7-foot-2 Khaman Maluach (7.6 ppg, 4.8 rpg) and a nice strong returning group including G Tyrese Proctor (12.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg), G Isaiah Evans (9.4 ppg), G Caleb Foster (8.9 rpg), and G Sion James (7.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg).
Duke Betting Trends
- Duke is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games overall
- The Under is 5-1-0 in the Blue Devils last 6 games
- The Blue Devils are 5-3 ATS in their last 8 overall
- The Under is 7-3-0 in Duke’s last 10 games
- Duke went 21-14-1 ATS last 2023-24 NCAAB season (60%)
Louisville Will Need Good Shooting Night to Upset
Louisville (4-4-0 ATS, 1-7-0 O/U) has been a stone cold Under team to start this season off and the Cardinals have some decent roster depth in G Chucky Hepburn (15.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 4.5 apg), G Reyne Smith (12.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg), F Kasean Pryor (12.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg), G Terrence Edwards (10.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg), G J’Vonne Hadley (9.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg), F Noah Waterman (6.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg), and F James Scott (6.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and they will need all hands on deck here against this efficient Duke side. The shooting of Forward Scott (85.2%), who has four perfect (100%) shooting games already and who was 79.2% from the floor in the 2023-24 NCAA Basketball season, has been otherworldly and the Sophomore was a spotless 3-for-3 for 6 points in the last game vs Mississippi.
Louisville Betting Trends
- Louisville lost its last 3 games in the ACC last season (VT, BC, NC ST)
- The Under is 8-2-0 in Louisville’s last 10 games overall
- James Scott is 24-for-28 on his Field Goal attempts this season
- The Under is 7-1-0 in Louisville’s last 8 Home games
- Louisville’s last win vs Duke was on February 27, 2021
Duke vs Louisville Prediction
Head Coach John Scheyer and Duke are 7-3 in the last 10 series meetings but Louisville is 6-4 ATS over that same span, with the Under 4-1 the last 5 dribbles here at the KFC Yum! Center where your 17th chicken wing and the heartburn is always free. This Duke vs Louisville NCAAB pick will stick with the large sample size series trends and expect Duke to win by 8 to 12 points in a game where the Cardinals may try to slow the pace to stay close. This is a game the Underdog hosts will be able to win, but they will need to be disciplined, hit their shots and win the Rebounds and TO battles to get to that end. With this being the ACC opener, expect Duke and these fancy Freshmen to shine and start conference play off with a hard-fought win in the Bluegrass State.
