Marquette vs Iowa State Preview
No. 5 Marquette (8-0, 1-0 on Road) heads to Ames, Iowa to face No. 6 Iowa State (5-1, 3-0 at Home) in the Big 12/Big East Battle and a fantastic early season showdown between two Midwest powers. In their last game, the Golden Eagles defeated Western Carolina by 32 (94-62) while the Cyclones manhandled Colorado (99-71) who had upset defending national champions UConn earlier in the week. Marquette has already beaten Georgia (80-69) and Purdue (76-58) while Iowa State has beaten Dayton (89-84) and the Buffaloes but lost to Auburn (83-81). Right now in the NCAA Basketball Futures market at DraftKings, Marquette is priced at 40/1 while Iowa State is at 18/1.
No. 5 Marquette a Team to Watch This Season
Marquette (6-2-0 ATS, 4-4-0 O/U) was a nice team to bet on in November and the Golden Warriors are a profitable 28-16-1 ATS in their last 45 games (63.6%). Marquette is led by superstar G Kam Jones (19.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 6.3 apg), F David Joplin (15.9 ppg, 6.0 rpg), G Chase Ross (11.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.9 apg), G Stevie Mitchell (11.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg), and F Ben Gold (8.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg), and can play with any team in the country with this deep roster. The Golden Warriors average 84.5 ppg (#42) and allow 63.6 ppg but need to do a better job Rebounding (34.4 rpg, Tied-#303) if they are going to get where they want to go.
Marquette Betting Trends
- Marquette is 6-4-0 ATS in its last 10 games overall
- The Under is 4-3-0 in Marquette’s last 7 games
- Marquette was 21-15-1 ATS last season
- The Golden Warriors are 23-15 ATS their last 38 games (+6.55 Units, 165% ROI)
- Marquette has won its last 4 games by 32, 35, 11, and 18 points
No. 6 Iowa State Will Need Homecourt to Help Here
Iowa State (2-4-0 ATS, 3-3-0 O/U) and Head Coach TJ Otzelberger used the Transfer Portal to their advantage this Summer, bringing in Joshua Jefferson (St. Mary’s), Nate Heise (Northern Iowa), Dishon Jackson (Charlotte), and Brandton Chatfield (Seattle) to help this team get back to the Big Dance and hopefully make a run at glory. And with a talented cast of returning players like Keshon Gilbert (16.5 ppg, 5.3 apg), Tamin Lipsey (10.5 ppg), Curtis Jones (16.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg), and Milan Momcilovic (12.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg), this is a nice blend of guys who should play well as a unit. Jackson (10.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg) has been the best of the New Cyclones On The Block so far. Iowa State (-250 Moneyline, Marquette +205) is averaging a robust 86.8 ppg (#19) while allowing lust 65.0, but like Marquette, needs to improve on the glass where it is only averaging 33.3 Rebounds Per game (#334).
Iowa State Trends
- Iowa State was the 7th best ATS team last season (25-11-1, 69.4%)
- The Cyclones are 8-2 SU in their last games 10 overall
- ISU’s L3 losses: Kansas St (Big 12 Tourney), Houston (NCAA Tourney), Auburn
- The Cyclones are 23-12-0 ATS in their last 35 games (+10.90 Units, 28% ROI)
- The Over is 3-0 in the Cyclones last 3 after 4 straight Unders
Marquette vs Iowa State Prediction
The Big 12/Big East Battle is a wonderful concept and good for the teams as well as the fans in early December. Why? These teams get to cut their teeth on each other and play usually close and exciting games and stand out compared to many of these early season non-conference mismatches. Last year in the Big 12/Big East Battle, the Big 12 went 7-4, with the previous 3 installments seeing three Ties (5-5, 5-5, 3-3), with the Big East winning it the inaugural year in 2019, 8-2. With Utah, Cincinnati, Colorado, Arizona State, and Arizona all joining the Big 12 this year. The conference does seem stronger but it did lose Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. This Marquette vs Iowa State NCAAB pick leans to Jones and the Road team getting the stocking full of points in a game the Golden Warriors could very well win outright. Like the Alabama vs North Carolina matchup in the ACC/SEC Men’s Challenge, this one will be good hardwood theater on Wednesday.
