Tulane vs Army Preview

No. 17 Tulane (9-3, 7-1 in AAC) heads to West Point on Friday evening to face Army (10-1, 8-0 in AAC) in the 2024 American Athletic Championship Game. The Green Wave suffered their first conference loss in Week 14 when Memphis rained on their parade while the Black Knights defeated UTSA, 29-24 to stay spotless in the AAC. Tulane and Navy did not meet in AAC Regular Season play this year. The Black Knights still have their traditional last game of the NCAA Football Regular Season next Saturday, December 7 vs. Service Academy rivals Navy at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland (3 EST/12 PST).

Tulane was the only AAC team ranked in the College Football Playoff Top 25, so after losing to the Tigers, it’s hard to tell what the committee may be thinking and the winner here just might still make the 12-team DI tournament field. Army’s lone loss was to Notre Dame, so maybe a win here ve the Green Wave and one next weekend vs. Navy could see them make it. The CFP kicks off on Friday, December 20 (ABC, ESPN, 8 EST/5 PST) and the next CFP Rankings show will air on Tuesday night (ESPN, 7 EST/4 PST).

Tulane Needs a Win to Stay in the CFP Picture

Tulane (9-3-0, 7-5-0 O/U) has one of the best ATS records in FBS this season, but the Green Wave really need to win this one of their chances of making the CFP may crumble. After losing to Memphis on Saturday, the Green Wave (-185 Moneyline) will have to beat Army here for the AAC championship and the hope another team from a Power 4 conference slips up on Championship Week, but for now it looks like no team from this conference may make the cut. QB Darian Mensah (2,514 passing yards), RB Makhi Hughes (1,306 rushing yards), and WR Mario Williams (831 receiving yards) will lead Tulane attack on offense, while LB Tyler Grubbs (53 Tackles) and the Green Wave defense will have to do what they can with a West Point crowd that will bring loads of energy to support their Black Knights.

Tulane Betting Trends

  • The Green Wave have alternated Overs/Unders the last 6 (OUOUOU)
  • Tulane is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games overall
  • The Green Wave are 5-0 ATS their last 5 Road games
  • Tulane is 7-3 ATS over the last 10 meetings with Army
  • Tulane is 5-0 on Moneyline in the First Half of last 5 (+5.00 Units, 32% ROI)

Army Still Not Waving the White Flag Yet

Army (7-4-0 ATS, 6-5-0 O/U) also marches in with an excellent ATS record and the Black Knights (+155) also have some hope to squeeze into the CFP and have some things going for them. The first is that their lone loss was to a strong Notre Dame side. The second is that this game is at Home and if they win they win the AAC title and improve to 11-1. Third, if they beat Navy next week and get to 12-1, that game will be the last thing the committee sees and remembers. QB Bryson Daily (860 passing yards, 1,348 rushing yards), RB Kanye Udoh (906 rushing yards, 9 TD), RB Noah Short, and WR Casey Reynolds (409 receiving yards, 3 TD) are also having nice seasons at West Point.

Army Betting Trends

  • Army has is 9-1 SU in its last 10 games overall
  • The Black Knights have lost 4 in a row SU to the Green Wave
  • The Over is 3-1 in the last 4 series meetings, 2-0 last 2 at Army
  • Army is 2-3 ATS its last 5 Home games, 0-3 ATS the last 3
  • The Under is 5-2 in the Black Knights last 7 games overall

Tulane vs Army Pick and Prediction

This Tulane vs Army NCAAF pick will back the soldiers who have dominated the Time of Possession vs UTSA in Week 14 (40:26 to 19:34) and know if they win 2 more, just may sneak into the CFP. Although Tulane has won the last 4 in this series, the Green Wave will be coming in off a sobering loss and these Louisiana kids will have to deal with below-freezing temperatures (27°) at West Point and a crowd that may have 7 Tulane fans in attendance. Tulane’s last 2 wins here came by 9 (33-24) and 3 (34-31).

Kevin’s Pick: Army +4.5 (FanDuel)
