Indiana vs Ohio State Preview

The first game on the betting board on Saturday morning is a doozy, with electric and No. 5 ranked Indiana (10-0, 7-0 in Big Ten) heading east one state to lock horns with No. 2 Ohio State (9-1, 6-1 in Big Ten) at The Shoe (411 Woody Hayes Drive). Like Army vs Notre Dame, this game will have huge College Football Playoff implications. Right now, the CFP bracket has No. 5-seed hosting No. 12-seed BYU in a First Round game with No. 7 Indiana hosting No. 10-seed Ole Miss in another first Round collision. Obviously, whoever loses here will lose that chance of hosting a CFP game with Indiana possibly missing out on the tournament depending on what Boise State, BYU, and Notre Dame do in these next two weeks. In their last game in Week 12, the Hoosiers held on to top Michigan at Home in Bloomington while the Buckeyes defeated Northwestern in Evanston with neither of the chalks covering ATS.

Indiana Can Shock the World With Win Saturday

Indiana (8-2-0 ATS, 7-3-0 O/U) heads in with one of the best ATS records in FBS, and with this dream season, Head Coach Curt Cignetti was rewarded this week with an 8-year, $72 million contract to stay in Bloomington through the 2032 season. Some critics will claim the Hoosiers have a soft Big Ten Conference schedule, with no Oregon (#1), Penn State (#4), Illinois (#25), USC or Iowa (or Notre Dame) this season, but that isn’t Indiana’s fault and they have dominated and beaten the defending national champions (Michigan), the runners-up last year (Washington), Michigan State, and Nebraska. This will be their biggest test for so many reasons and so much at stake: an unbeaten season, a 10-game winning streak, and most importantly, that spot in the first-ever CFP. With a win, IU can cement themselves in the tournament but with a loss, it leaves open the possibility that this great team might not make the cut when all is said and done.

Indiana Betting Trends

  • Indiana was 3-9 SU last year and lost 7 of its last 8
  • The Hoosiers have covered 8 of their last 9 ATS
  • The Over is 3-0 in the Hoosiers 3 Road games this season
  • Indiana is #2 in the nation in scoring Offense (43.9 ppg)
  • The Over is 7-2 in IU’s last 9 games overall
  • Indians is tied with Tulane for the most TDs Scored (59)

Ohio State Can Burst Hoosiers Bubble at The Shoe

Last year, Ohio State (5-5-0 ATS, 4-6-0 O/U) beat Indiana, 23-3 in Bloomington in a game that was 10-3 at halftime. But snagging the Head Coach from James Madison along with a number of talented Dukes players in the offseason has made Indiana into a beast. QB Will Howard, RB Quinshon Judkins, and star WRs Jeremiah Smith, Emeka Egbuka, and Carnell Tate give the Buckeyes some of the best skill guys in FBS. Ohio State has given up more than 17 points only once—in a 32-21 loss to No. 1 Oregon in the best game of the NCAAF season so far. This team shut out Western Michigan and Purdue and allowed only 7 points to Michigan State, Iowa, and Northwestern last weekend. The defense has always been solid and Buckeyes are allowing just 10.3 ppg (#1) heading in here and could make life hard for the prolific Hoosiers.

Ohio State Betting Trends

  • Ohio State ranks #12 in the nation in Scoring Offense (37.3 ppg)
  • The Buckeyes have alternated ATS W/L’s at Home last 6 (WLWLWL)
  • The Buckeyes have never lost to Indiana (30-0-1)
  • The Under is 4-0 in the last 4 Ohio State games, and 6 of 7
  • Ohio State is 16-0 lifetime vs Indiana at The Shoe

Indiana vs Ohio State Pick and Prediction

To say that this is the biggest game in the Big Ten Conference this year and the biggest game in Indiana football history would not be hyperbolic. If the Hoosiers win, they will be on the verge of an unbeaten Regular Season—with only rivals Purdue left on the schedule—will guarantee themselves a spot in the CFP (and a Home game), and will have beaten Ohio State for the first time ever. These are not small things. Little Pink Houses for you and me type stuff brother. But the big question here is can Indiana score vs Ohio State in Columbus? The Buckeyes should be able to get their obligatory 28 points, and the crowd will be worth a TD in this great spot, but can the Hoosiers get 28? Probably not.

Therefore, with the Under 4-0 in the last 4 OSU games (and 6 of the last 7), this Indiana vs Ohio State prediction and free NCAAF pick will be on the Under. It may be possible the hosts can get their 30 here, but likely very hard for the visitors to get to 20 in such a huge game. The Buckeyes stay unbeaten vs the Hoosiers who will then have to beat the Boilermakers in Week 14 and hope for the best and things like Army upsetting Notre Dame or Arizona State beating BYU. These next two weeks will be fun for NCAAF fans.

Kevin’s Pick: Indiana-Ohio State Under 54.5
