Washington State vs Oregon State Preview

The only two teams that stayed put in the Pac-12 Conference, Washington State (8-2, 0-0 in Pac-12) and Oregon State (4-6, 0-0 in Pac-12), face off in a meeting between two gunslingers in a deserted cowboy town on Saturday in the Land of Bigfoot. Playing a first conference game a week before Thanksgiving is something we have never seen in College Football, but things have really gotten strange on planet Earth lately. So does the winner of this game win the Pac-12? Do we call it the Pac-2 now? No and no. For this year, these two teams played teams in the Mountain West Conference (MWC) but the Cougars and Beavers weren’t and aren’t eligible to win the conference title. The best hope here is for Washington State to keep on winning, try to finish 10-2, as after Tuesday’s College Football Playoffs (CFP), they are no longer in the picture or even in the Top 25. No Pac-12 teams will be in the CFP and only one former member (#1 Oregon) will have a chance at winning it all.

Washington State Needs to Keep on Winning

Washington State (6-4-0 ATS, 5-5-0 O/U) has done pretty well for themselves this season, bolstered by an early season upset over Apple Cup rivals Washington in Pulliam in Week 3 (24-19). But dreams of potentially sneaking into the CFP were dashed in Week 12 when New Mexico upset the Cougars 38-35 after Washington State led 28-14 at halftime. A good Bowl game is guaranteed still, but what might have been will weigh heavy on the minds of the Cougars and their coaching staff this offseason. The Cougars have had two 4-game win streaks and losses to Boise State and Los Lobos and will end their Regular Season on Saturday, November 20 vs Wyoming (The CW Network).

Washington State Betting Trends

  • Washington State is 4-1 ATS the last 5
  • The Cougars have played 2 straight Overs after 4 straight Unders
  • Washington State has been favored in 6 straight games
  • The Cougars are 9-1 SU in their last 10 against Oregon State
  • Washington State has outgained OSU in 10 straight games

Oregon State Really Having Trouble Putting up Points

Oregon State (2-8-0 ATS, 5-5-0 O/U)  has been a great team to fade this season, and after being shut out by Air Force (28-0) in Week 12 in a game where they were the Favorites shows the offensive troubles of the Beavers. In its last three games, Oregon State has scored 0, 13, and 7 and this team is mired in a 5-game losing streak. Facing Washington State right about now couldn’t be a worse time for the Beavers whose last win came on October 5 at Home vs Colorado State with their last ATS cover a weekend earlier vs Purdue (-2, 38-21). This team was stronger and cared more when the Pac-12 had more teams who all (but one other) left for other Power 4 conferences. A win here is meaningless and this team just can’t stack up, or score with the Cougars.

Oregon State Betting Trends

  • Oregon State is 3-7 ATS the last 10 in this series
  • The Over is 8-2 in the last 10 series meetings
  • Oregon State is 1-4 SU in the last 4 Home meetings
  • Beavers lost LY 38-35, missing the ATS cover by 1/2 as 2.5-point dogs
  • The Over is 4-1 the last 5 meetings in Corvallis, Oregon

Washington State vs Oregon State Pick and Prediction

This Washington State vs Oregon State prediction and free NCAAF pick will follow the strong series and season Trends, and bet on the team who has scored 113 points (37.7 ppg) in the last 3 games over the team who has scored 27 (9.0 ppg). A win only helps the Cougars in their poll rankings, but with dual-threat QB John Mateer (2,707 passing yards, 695 rushing yards) and WR Kyle Williams (872 receiving yards, 11 TD, 17.1 ypc), the visitors will have the two most talented offensive players on the field, and if Air Force could shut this team out, 7-10 may be the most the Beavers can muster against a team who was ranked in the Top 25 (#16 before the latest CFP ranking on Tuesday).

Kevin’s Pick: Washington State -12.5
