UNLV vs San José State Preview
UNLV (8-2, 4-1 in MWC) heads to San José to face the Spartans (5-4, 3-3 in MWC) in a Mountain West Conference game much more important to the Home team who can become Bowl eligible with a win. In their last game, the Rebels beat San Diego State (41-20) in Las Vegas while San José State lost to Boise State (42-21) at Home. Against a common quality opponent, Boise State, SJS lost by 21 while UNLV lost by just 5 in a game that knocked the upstart Rebels out of the Top 25 and any CFP conversations. The Spartans are 9-2 SU lifetime vs UNLV and are a perfect 5-0 against the Rebel at Home at CEFCU Stadium (formerly Spartan Stadium).
UNLV Looking For First Win at San José State
UNLV (5-5-0 ATS, 6-4-0 O/U) has really improved under Head Coach Barry Odom and this team only has 2 SU losses (SYR, BOISE) by a total of 8 points and will be going to a quality Bowl game, but not into the CFP as the Rebels had hoped. QB Hajj-Malik Williams (1,436 passing yards, 14 TD, 5 Interceptions) has been fantastic under center for UNLV and he has also rushed for 646 yards and 8 TD (5.9 ypc). Star WR Ricky White III (867 receiving yards) is quickly approaching the 1,000 yards mark and with 10 TD and a 13.8 ypc average, is having a great year here in Sin City. But UNLV has never won at San José State and the Spartans have had this team’s number, although SJS was stronger back then and UNLV has improved vastly. This should be a very good game.
UNLV Betting Trends:
- UNLV is 2-8 SU the last 10 vs SJS
- The Over is 6-3 ATS in the Rebels last 9 games
- UNLV is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 overall
- The Rebels had 5 different leading Rushers in their first 5 games
- UNLV lost to SJS, 37-31 last year at Allegiant Stadium
San José State Unbeaten vs UNLV at Home
San José State (5-5-0 ATS, 4-6-0 O/U) is led by QB Walker Eget (1,758 passing yards, 6 TD, 8 Interceptions), who replaced Emmett Brown (1,621 passing yards, 16 TD, 5 Interceptions) when the Spartans trailed Nevada, 28-21 and led SJS to a 35-31 win. RB Floyd Chalk IV (596 rushing yards)—owner of one of the best names in NCAAF—and star WR Nick Nash (95 receptions, 1,282 receiving yards, 14 TD, 13.5 ypc) give the Spartans a very strong offense, but stopping UNLV from scoring will be the key here for SJS to stay unbeaten at Home vs Williams, White III, and the Rebs. With Nash and White III, we will get to see two of the MWC’s best WRs in action in the same game on Friday night.
