Right now, the bookmakers have made Iowa State a 9.5-point favorite. I think that’s too many points, guys. Here’s why: Iowa State has lost their last two games. The last time they played was against Kansas in Kansas, and they got beat 45-36, giving up 532 yards of total offense in that game.
Their defense was pretty good to start the season—they came out 7-0. But like I said, they’ve now lost their last two games. The game before the Kansas loss, they got beat by Texas Tech. And the game before Texas Tech, they were down 35-31 to UCF. They had to score in the last 30 seconds to pull ahead 38-35. This defense has been giving up a lot of points, and I think they’ll give up some in this game.
Cincinnati Keeps It Close
Cincinnati, on the other hand, comes in at 5-4. Three of those four losses were by seven points or less. The only time they lost by more than seven was against Colorado, by 11. I think this is going to be a tough game, man. Something’s going on with Iowa State’s defense—they’re just giving up too many points. I don’t see them winning this game by double digits with the way they’ve been playing over the last three weeks.
