Lions vs Texans Preview
The Detroit Lions (7-1-0 4-0 on Road) head to the Lone Star State on to lock facemasks with the Houston Texans (6-3-0, 4-0 at Home) and see if they can keep their win streak going and be the first team to beat the Texans at NRG Stadium this 2024-25 NFL Regular Season. In their last game, Detroit manhandled their rivals, the Packers, in a game in which they were well outgained in and a winning handicap we provided for you here. In their last game in Week 9, the Texans lost 21-13 to the Jets on Thursday Night Football, so despite that setback, Houston will be well-rested (9 days) and will look to get two of its most important players back for this big AFC-NFC showdown.
Lions, Goff Evolving Into an NFL ATM?
QB Jared Goff (1,840 passing yards, 14 TDs, 4 interceptions) has been sensational, leading the Lions to six straight victories, but this may be the toughest game with Houston so strong at Home and Detroit playing its second straight game on the Road. But the Lions will head in with the NFL’s top offense (32.3 ppg, #1)—they scored 52 vs the Titans—and a stout defense (18.5 ppg, T-#5). RBs Jahmyr Gibbs (656 rushing yards, 7 TDs, 6.4 ypc) and David Montgomery (488 rushing yards, 7 TDs, 4.4 ypc) have been bullworkers this season in the backfield and star WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (48 receptions, 464 yards, 6 TDs) has been absolutely unbelievable, catching the football the last 30 times he has been targeted. Yes, you read that right. Thirty straight targets.
Lions Betting Trends
- Detroit is 4-0 SU on Road, has won 6 straight Regular Season on Road
- Detroit HC Dan Campbell is 46-25 ATS (64.8%) with the Lions and Dolphins
- The Lions have the best ATS record in the NFL now at 7-1-0 (WASH 7-1-0)
- Detroit is a profitable 9-1-0 ATS in its last 10 games
- The Lions have won and covered ATS 6 consecutive games
Texans Looking to Get Two of Their Key Players Back
Houston is looking to get LB Will Anderson (ankle) and WR Nico Collins (hamstring) back, and the Texans will need them here against the roaring Lions. QB CJ Stroud (2,139 passing yards, 11 TDs, 4 interceptions) and Houston are the team to beat in the AFC South but have gone just 1-2 vs their NFC North opponents—lost to the Vikings and Packers, beat the Bears—and are 5-1 against the AFC. RB Joe Mixon (609 rushing yards) and Collins (567 receiving yards) are the two most productive guys on the Texans offense, but both suffered injuries early this season. On defense, Henry To’oTo’o leads Houston with 50 tackles and he will be hoping that Anderson can return to the lineup against this high-scoring Lions team.
Texans Betting Trends
- Houston is 4-0 SU lifetime against the Lions as the Texans (123 PF-90 PA)
- The Texans have played 7 Unders in their last 8 games
- Houston is just 3-6-1 ATS in its last 10 games
- CJ Stroud has just 5 TDS passes in his last 6 games (Goff has 11)
- Texans Unders are 18-9-1 (66.7%) over the past two seasons
Lions Just Playing Too Well Not to Back Here on SNF
Despite the undefeated mark at Home, a 4-0 series record vs Detroit, the extended rest, and the possibility of getting Anderson and Collins back, I am still backing the red-hot visitors in this free NFL pick and Lions vs Texans prediction. Goff has simply been playing better than Stroud, St. Brown catches everything thrown his way, and the Lions can beat opponents with a strong rushing attack or by playing lockdown defense. If Houston couldn’t beat the Jets, I find it hard to believe they can get up for this one and beat Detroit, although it could be close and is one of the must-watch games on the NFL Week 10 schedule this weekend.
