The New York Knicks are hosting the Indiana Pacers in Friday NBA Action at the Madison Square Garden. This is a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference semifinals where the Pacers prevailed by 4-3 wins in a thrilling series. Knicks fans had a bitter taste in their mouth after that elimination because NY was missing their second best player in Julius Randle through the whole series.

The Knicks are looking for their first victory in front of their home crowd after getting blown out in Boston.

The Indiana Pacers start their season with back-to-back road games and after a win over the Pistons, they are looking to start the season on a winning streak.

 

Indiana Pacers vs New York Knicks Preview

The Pacers won their season opener at home against the Detroit Pistons on the road, 115-109. It was a balanced attack for the Pacers, who had three players with 19+ points. They had a slow start to the game, trailing by 9 points at halftime. But they bounced back in the second half as their high-octane offense kicked into gear. They scored 66 points in the second half. Myles Turner led the team with 20 points, adding a team-high 9 boards, 4 assists and a game-high 4 blocks. Tyrese Haliburton who is coming off a breakout season showed clear signs of rust as he threw bricks from downtown (1-9) for just 15 points and 4 assists. Despite TB’s cold night, the Pacers shot with 50.6% from the field and 29% from downtown.

The Knicks lost their opening game against the Boston Celtics with a 109-132 score in a disappointing outing. They got torched by Jason Tatum and co. to start the game as they allowed 43 first quarter points and fell behind by 19 points. Jalen Brunson and Deuce McBride led the team with 22 points apiece. Newly acquired Mikal Bridges started the game slow but finally got into rhythm and finished with 16 points, 2 assists, no rebounds. OG Anunoby was terrible going 1-7 shots from the field at just 4 points.

The Knicks had a good shooting night, making 55.1% of their shots from the field and 36.7% from downtown. But it was their perimeter defense that betrayed them as they allowed the Celtics to make a whopping 29 triples. Karl Anthony Towns sucked in his first appearance in a Knicks jersey as he managed just 12 points and grab 7 boards in 23 minutes.

The Knicks had this game marked in their calendars since they got eliminated last season. They are out for revenge, with the help of an excited crowd in Madison Square Garden. Even though they lost in Boston, they had an efficient shooting night so if they can adjust their defense (and not play the Celtics) they should be in good shape. On the Pacers side of things, they struggled mightily for 24 minutes against one of the worst teams in the league, so they have to step up their game if they want to be competitive in this one. The Knicks, on paper, have what it takes to make this a convincing victory and I’m expecting team chemistry to be better. Take the Knicks and lay the points.
