Minnesota Lynx vs New York Liberty 10/10/24

Hi everybody, it’s Rodd, Bo, and Ron coming at you with Game 1 of the WNBA Championship here on Thursday, October 10th, 2024. Just before we get to the Game 1 action, I want to say, hey, if you’re new to Tony’s Picks, welcome on board! Glad to have you. Alright, let’s get into this action. This line opened up at five and shot up to six now in most books, with the total around 159-159.5.

Ron Crawford’s Pick and Analysis

Yeah, we want to go back to June when they had the Commissioner’s Cup, where Minnesota beat New York. You know, I like the Lynx here. The Lynx are 16-6 on the road ATS, and if you look at the New York Liberty, they’re 7-17 at home ATS. I know they’re just coming off a couple of days of rest, but I like Minnesota here, plus the six. I think this line is going to fall a little bit; I caught it at three and 159, so I don’t really have anything on the total, but yeah, take the Lynx plus the six.

Bo Dunn’s Pick and Analysis

Yeah man, I’mma follow him. I like the Lynx too—too many points. They’ve got a defense that just shut down that game against Connecticut. Last time, they forced 19 turnovers and scored 22 points off them. I like the way Courtney Williams has been playing point, man—she’s shooting 73% from three and averaging 13 points a game. I think she’ll be a big factor here, maybe even the MVP. We’ve got two Connecticut top players facing off, but at the end of the day, I’m going with the Lynx. We’ve seen the trend: three road games in five nights, and this team is a perfect 10-0, so give me the Lynx, man. I also like them to win in five, at plus 240.

Rodd Zawacky’s Pick and Analysis

I kind of lean toward the Lynx too. It might get to the point where it’s just too many points. I’m looking for seven for me to bet on the Lynx plus the points because, you know, the Liberty are definitely going to come out offensively. But this Lynx team—well, we saw in the Commissioner’s Cup that they can definitely hang with the Liberty offensively. That’s why I like the over here in this spot. You look at the Lynx—their last four road games all hit the over. You look at the Liberty—4-0 to the over in their last four after a straight-up win, and 4-1 to the over in their last five. For me, the over trend just keeps giving.

Look at betting the over with home teams when the total is greater than 150 in games involving two good shooting teams, which is what we’ve got here. We’ve also got a team that’s made 90% of their free throws or better. Since 1997, the over is 29-8 in such games, so give me the over between these two teams. I’d even take it in the first half in this one.
