The Washington Nationals will go against the New York Mets in MLB action in Citi Field, NY, on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 7:10 PM ET.
The Nationals committed to a youth movement over the past two seasons and are finally beginning to reap the benefits.
The Nationals were increasingly competitive throughout the season, and this week’s sweep of playoff-eligible San Francisco saw them outscore the Giants 21-5.
After the series, Washington faced off against Colorado. In game one of the series, the Rockies defeated the Nats 10-6, snapping their undefeated run.
The Nats managed to win games two and three by a single run. On Wednesday, they recovered from a 6-5 loss in game two to win 5-4 in a walk-off victory, with an RBI single from CJ Abrams capping a four-run ninth inning.
In game one against the Mets, the Nationals will give right-handed all-star Josiah Gray the ball. In 20 starts this season, Gray has a record of 7-8, with seven strong outings.
In 112 innings pitched, he surrendered 111 hits for a 3.45 ERA. He has a 7.9 K/9 rate and a 1.44 WHIP. Gray made 12 starts on the road and had four wins.
Gray’s ERA dropped to 2.74 after he allowed 67 hits over 69 innings of work. His K/9 rate increases to 8.2, and Josiah Gray has a reduced WHIP of 1.35. He has a 4.24 ERA and a 1-2 record over his previous three games.
- The total went OVER in nine of Washington’s last 12 matches.
- The Washington Nationals are 5-1 SU in their previous six matches.

Washington Nationals vs New York Mets Predictions 7/27/2023
This weekend’s four-game series between the last-place Nationals and the New York Mets offers the potential for the Mets to mount one more defence. The Mets have the talent to go far, but little time is left.
The Mets will probably be sellers at the trade deadline and may let go of many important veterans if the team doesn’t show signs of progress the week before the deadline.
The Mets dominated game one of the Subway Series against the Yankees on Tuesday night. Pete Alonso’s two home runs helped the Mets to a 9-3 victory.
The Yankees’ pitching subdued the Mets’ offence on Wednesday night. The Mets lost 3-1 despite only getting four hits and going 0-5 with RISP.
Right-hander Kondai Senga will start the series for the Mets against the Nationals. Senga has a 7-5 record in 18 starts, including seven strong ones. In his 99 innings thrown, he only gave up 75 hits for an ERA of 3.27.
Senga has a WHIP of 1.26 and a K/9 rate of 11.4. Senga made nine starts at home and is 3-2 with five solid outings. His home ERA is 2.50, and he gave up 32 hits in 50.1 innings pitched.
Senga’s home K/9 rate increased to 11.8, and his CitiBank Field WHIP decreased to 1.11.
Senga should be in good shape despite only going three innings in his previous start in Boston when the game stopped on Friday night due to rain.
- The total went UNDER in eight of the NY Mets’ last 11 matches.
- The NY Mets are 2-4 SU in their last six matches.
- The total went UNDER in five of the NY Mets’ last six matches at home.
Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets. The MLB pick for this game is the New York Mets. Senga was outstanding at home this year, pitching to an ERA of about 2.5 with a K/9 rate of getting close to 12.
Gray was also a solid pitcher away from home with an ERA under three. The Mets are the more desperate side going into this series, with a home record of 23-22 this year.
Due to their desperation, they enter this game as more than a slight favourite since they need to win this series to maintain their slim chances of making a postseason push.
The Nats squad won both of its most recent games after falling early. The Mets’ attempt to restore an offensive far more effective in the opening few months of the season may benefit from Pete Alonso’s explosion in game one against the Yankees.
As they attempt to maintain their wildcard ambitions, expect New York to use some of the passion from their series in the Bronx to secure a significant victory here. The New York Mets will win by a predicted score of 6-4.
