Boston Red Sox vs Oakland Athletics 7/18/2023 Picks Predictions Previews
Game two of a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics will take place in Oakland on Tuesday night as the Boston Red Sox resume their road trip.
Following a six-run victory against the Chicago Cubs on Monday, Boston has won four of its past five games to move six games above.500 on the season.
Although the Red Sox have yet to name a starter for their game against Oakland, they currently have a 4.39 team earned run average and have struck out 801 batters overall in 94 games this year.
Boston has been very effective offensively, with a 0.265-team average, 856 hits, and 104 long balls. With 23 home runs and 73 RBIs so far this year, Rafael Devers is the offensive MVP for Boston.
Masataka Yoshida has a season batting average of.317, which leads the squad. Justin Turner has been a critical component for Boston this season, leading the team with 100 hits and driving in 58 runs in 90 games.
As they took the final match of their three-game series against the Cubs on the road Sunday afternoon, Boston won for the 10th time in 12 games.
With a 50-44 record going into Monday, the Red Sox were nine games back of the Rays in first place and tied for fourth place in the AL East.
For the final wild-card berth in the American League postseason picture, they were two games back of the Astros. Masataka Yoshida led a 14-hit Red Sox attack on Sunday with three singles (two runs, six RBI).
Yoshida’s 11th home run, a grand slam, Rafael Devers’ 23rd, and Triston Casas’ 12th also contributed to the triumph with home runs.
With six innings of scoreless work, one hit, four walks, and nine strikeouts before handing the ball over to the bullpen, Kutter Crawford (4-4) won.
Chris Murphy, a rookie, might make his eighth major league appearance and first start here as the Red Sox are expected to go with a bullpen day, given that they only have three healthy starters.
In 16.2 innings of work this season, he has no records, a 2.16 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, eight walks, and 17 strikeouts.
Murphy had no bearing on the choice in his most recent appearance, a relieving appearance on July 9 at home against the A’s.
He pitched three innings in a game the Red Sox eventually won 4-3, giving up one run on two hits while walking four and striking out four.
Murphy has no record, an 8.2 inning work total of seven walks and six strikeouts, a 4.15 ERA, a 1.85 WHIP, and no records in his last three bullpen appearances.
Following his appearance on July 9, Murphy made his second career appearance and first start against the A’s in these statistics.
He throws in the RingCentral Coliseum for the first time in his seventh major league appearance and first start.
Before being called up, Murphy had made 12 appearances, nine of which were starts, for Triple-A Worcester of the International League. He had a 1-3 record, a 7.01 ERA, a 1.878 WHIP, 26 walks, and 48 strikeouts over 43.2 innings.
