The Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels will face off in an interleague game on Tuesday, June 6 at 9:38 PM ET at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, as the 2023 Major League Baseball season resumes.

Los Angeles Angels (31-30) at Chicago Cubs (26-32).

First matchup between the Cubbies and Halos since 2019. The Angels are -133 moneyline favorites with a total of 9.0 runs for Tuesday’s series opener as they kick off a three-game set.

This preview does not include Monday’s games, as the 26-32 Chicago Cubs attempted to win a four-game series at Petco Park in San Diego.

The Cubbies defeated the San Diego Padres 6-0 in Game 2 while defeating them 2-1 in Game 1 and 7-1 in Game 3 of the series. Chicago has only won six games overall and four of its past six games.

The Cubs had a terrible month of May, going 10-18 with a run differential of minus-38.

In 933 at-bats, they batted.232/.319/.375 with 43 doubles and 29 home runs, compiling a 4.80 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and.266 opposition batting average.

The Cubs haven’t hit well in the previous seven days.In 153 at-bats, he hit 203.291.327 with four doubles and five home runs.

Tuesday in San Diego is expected to be Hayden Wesneski’s first game.

The 25-year-old right-hander has made eight starts and one relief appearance for a total of 43 innings this year, going 2-2 with a 4.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 32/11 K/BB ratio.

Wesneski started the season as a starter but was relieved of his duties on May 13 after allowing seven earned runs on seven hits (four home runs) and a walk over 3.2 innings in a loss to the Minnesota Twins that resulted in a score of 11-1.

While Justin Steele (forearm) is on the 15-day IL, he will rotate in for Steele.

Wesneski pitched 3.2 innings in relief on last Wednesday against the formidable Tampa Bay Rays. He only allowed one earned run on one hit, two walks, and four strikeouts.

Wesneski is now in the 10th percentile for barrel percentage and the 9th percentile for predicted batting average.

Chicago Cubs vs Los Angeles Angels Predictions 6/6/2023

In a four-game series at Minute Maid Park in Houston, the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Houston Astros 2-1 this past Sunday to prevent a whitewash.

The Los Angeles Angels have lost three straight games against the defending World Series winners after taking two of three against the Chicago White Sox (5-2, 6-2, and 9-6).

In all, the Angels had only won three of the previous 10 games. In their prior series at Angel Stadium, the Miami Marlins swept them.

The Angels’ recent streak of strong hitting continues.

In 437 at-bats, they hit.247/.331/.460 with 28 extra-base hits and 21 home runs, but their pitching staff hasn’t performed well, posting a 4.11 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and a.264 opposition batting average during that time.

On Tuesday, Tyler Anderson, a 33-year-old left-hander with a mediocre 5.47 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 33/25 K/BB ratio in ten starts (52.2 IP), will take the mound.

Anderson has so far had three good starts before faltering later on. Tyler has pitched poorly, but the Angels have won four of his last five starts.

Tuesday’s 7-3 setback against the White Sox resulted in Anderson being given a loss. In just four innings of work, he gave up six earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks.

In terms of predicted batting average and slugging percentage, Anderson is currently in the 24th and 44th percentiles, respectively.

Chicago Cubs vs Los Angeles Angels. The MLB pick for this game is the Los Angeles Angels. Tyler Anderson and the Cubs know each other very well.

The current Cubbies are 15-for-57 with four extra-base hits, three home runs, and 11 RBI against the former Pittsburgh Pirate.

Chicago is hitting .267/345/.467 against the left-handed pitchers in the last ten days, posting a 122 wRC+ and .200 ISO (Isolated power).

The Cubs have struggled against the righties, notching a hideous 41 wRC+ and .491 OPS in that span.

On the other side, Hayden Wesneski, who’s never met the Halos before, will have a tough assignment at Angel Stadium.

In the last ten days, the Angels have slashed .251/.345/.443 against the right-handed pitchers while posting a 119 wRC+ and a nice .192 ISO. They’ve also recorded a 108 wRC+ and .187 ISO against the lefties.

I’m going with the Angles because of their offense, though betting on the over looks like the best move.

Luis Rengifo is 5-for-10 in his last four games, Taylor Ward is 10-for-26 with two home runs and five RBI in his last six games, and Shohei Ohtani has homered three times in his previous six games while batting .360 and slugging .880.

Keep your eyes on Mike Trout, who’s 2-for-22 in his previous six appearances. Trout’s slump will come to an end sooner rather than later. Take the LA Angels predicted to a score of 6-2.
