Kansas Jayhawks vs Iowa State Cyclones 2/4/2023 Picks Predictions Previews

The #8 Kansas Jayhawks will meet with the #13 Iowa State Cyclones in NCAAB action in James H. Hilton Coliseum, Iowa, on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 12:00 PM ET.

After capturing the national championship last year, Kansas got off to a great start this year, dominating 16 of its first 17 matches.

Midway through January, the Jayhawks lost three consecutive matches to Kansas State, TCU, and Baylor.

As they avoided their first four-game winless skid since the 1980s, they were able to get back on track after that, which started with a 77-68 victory at Kentucky during the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.

On Tuesday, Kansas defeated No. 7 Kansas State 90-78 to avenge an overtime loss from a few weeks earlier. Jalen Wilson, a star wing, scored 20 points, matching his previous record of five straight games.

Wilson received some assistance from his bench in that match as well; the bench scored 19 points, which was a season-high in a conference game.

The Jayhawks’ bench has a famously low minute total, placing them 343rd out of 363 Division I teams. In KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency rankings, they are still ranked 19th overall.

Since Iowa State is No. 11 in overall defensive efficiency and leads the nation in turnover rate, this will be a challenging game.

  • The Kansas Jayhawks are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 matches.
  • The Kansas Jayhawks are 16-4 SU in their last 20 matches.
  • The Kansas Jayhawks are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 matches against Iowa State.

Kansas Jayhawks vs Iowa State Cyclones Predictions 2/4/2023

With two defeats coming to UConn and Iowa, Iowa State compiled a strong non-conference record. To begin Big 12 play, the Cyclones grabbed four straight victories, defeating Baylor and TCU along the way.

With their 2-point loss against Kansas, they saw their unblemished start come to an end and began a streak of four losses in six matches.

Although Texas and Kansas State, two top-10 teams, were the opponents of Iowa State’s two victories since mid-January, the Hawkeyes dropped two road games to Missouri and Texas Tech.

This year, they had an erratic offensive performance, ranking 106th in 3-point percentage (35.3%) and No. 110 in 2-point percentage (51.7).

Despite having trouble with turnovers and poor free-throw shooting (66.3), Iowa State ranks No. 23 nationally for offensive rebounding rate.

The Kansas defense, which is ranked No. 16 in modified efficiency, will be tested against the Cyclones. Jaren Holmes, a senior guard, leads Iowa State in scoring with 13.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per contest.

  • The Iowa State Cyclones are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 matches.
  • The total went OVER in 7 of Iowa State’s last 10 matches.
  • The Iowa State Cyclones are 14-6 SU in their last 20 matches.

#8 Kansas Jayhawks vs #13 Iowa State Cyclones. The NCAAB pick for this game is the #13 Iowa State Cyclones. Despite Iowa State’s current inconsistency, this game will not necessarily be affected by it.

The Cyclones performed best while playing the top opponents on their schedule, and their most recent victories came against top-10 opponents.

They came close to defeating Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse a few weeks ago, and the Jayhawks will find it difficult to handle them in a hostile environment given their nation-leading turnover rate.

With just two of its last seven games being covered by the spread, Kansas was recently overrated in the betting market. This season, Iowa State is yet to suffer a home loss, and I do not anticipate that to change on Saturday.
