Atlanta experienced a terrible season last year as well, although not in the same sense as Houston. The Hawks were expecting to make another long playoff run last year after making the Eastern Conference finals in 2021 with a youthful player roster.

They ultimately snuck into the postseason, but they struggled to really be a major danger in the conference. They defeated Charlotte and Cleveland to qualify for the field, but they fell to Miami in the opening round, losing four of their five games.

Head coach Nate McMillan is currently under as much pressure leading into the season as any NBA coach.

Trae Young, a franchise guard for the Hawks, is still the team’s focal point. He was sixth in shooting (28.4) and third in assists (9.7) the previous season.

Dejounte Murray, a defensive force at that position they signed over the summer, helped them create a balanced backcourt.
