Tampa Bay Rays vs Cleveland Guardians AL Wild Card Game 2 10/8/2022 Picks Predictions Previews

The Tampa Bay Rays will go against the Cleveland Guardians in MLB action in Progressive Field, OH, on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 12:07 PM ET.

Although Jason Adam and Pete Fairbanks both have eight saves for the Tampa Bay Rays, the starting rotation is significantly stronger than most baseball fans may assume.

Shane McClanahan was a Cy Young Award contender for most of the regular season, Drew Rasmussen put together a very reliable year, and reliever Jeffrey Springs turned quality starter.

The three had ERAs below 3.00 at the end of the season. With the addition of Corey Kluber, a postseason veteran, and Tyler Glasnow, who made just two starts during the regular season while recuperating from Tommy John surgery, you have a strong starting rotation.

Only Cleveland has fewer home runs than Tampa Bay among the postseason teams, despite Tampa Bay’s struggles to score runs this season.

The Rays’ issues continued on Friday with only one run and three hits, including a home run by Jose Siri. Brandon Lowe, who hit 39 home runs last season, is not available for Tampa Bay, while Wander Franco, who had a strong start to the season but struggled during the summer, went 0-for-4 on Friday.

  • The total went UNDER in 5 of Tampa Bay’s previous 6 matches.
  • The Tampa Bay Rays are 0-6 SU in their last 6 matches.
  • The Tampa Bay Rays are 1-4 SU in their last 5 matches against Cleveland.

Tampa Bay Rays vs Cleveland Guardians AL Wild Card Game 2 Predictions 10/8/2022

This season’s American League Central Division champion Cleveland Indians owe a large portion of their success to their strong bullpen.

James Karinchak, Sam Hentges, and Trevor Stephan are three great set-up pitchers for Cleveland who all performed superbly this season.

They all prepared the way for Emmanuel Clase, one of the finest closers in baseball, who concluded the regular season with a major league-leading 42 saves.

Clase earned the save in Friday’s victory in Game 1 after pitching 13 innings of scoreless relief. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers have a lower bullpen ERA since the beginning of July than Cleveland, and everyone is aware that pitching and a good bullpen are essential in the postseason.

With fewer home runs than any other postseason team, Cleveland lacks power at the plate, but Jose Ramirez, like he did all season, contributed all the runs with a two-run home bomb in the sixth inning.

In the postseason, home run hitting is crucial despite the necessity of great pitching. In 37 games throughout the playoffs last year, including 10 matches when both teams hit the same amount of home runs, the team with more home runs in a game went on to win.

As a result, despite Cleveland’s excellent pitching staff, particularly its bullpen, a lack of power hitting at the plate may be the cause of their downfall.

  • The total went OVER in 6 of Cleveland’s previous 7 matches.
  • The Cleveland Guardians are 14-3 SU in their last 17 matches.
  • The total went UNDER in 8 of Cleveland’s last 12 games with the Rays.

Tampa Bay Rays vs Cleveland Guardians. The MLB pick for this game is the Cleveland Guardians. In Game 1, the Cleveland Guardians demonstrated why they won the AL Central with strong pitching and timely hitting.

Shane Bieber pitched for the Indians over 7 2/3 innings, allowing only one run, while Jose Ramirez hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Triston McKenzie will start on the mound for Cleveland on Saturday.

On September 29, the right-hander, who had a decent 2.96 ERA this year, allowed 3 hits and 1 run in 6 innings as the Guardians defeated the Rays 2-1. In McKenzie’s past six starts, the Guardians prevailed five times.

Since undergoing Tommy John surgery, Tyler Glasnow of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made just two starts and tossed three and three and a third innings.

On September 28, Cleveland defeated McKenzie 2-1 while he was pitching against him. The Guardians triumphed in 39 of the last 57 games overall and seven of the past nine at home.

The Cleveland Guardians will win to a predicted score of 5-2.
