Buffalo at Eastern Michigan—Buffalo fell to 0-3 after their 38-26 road defeat to Coastal Carolina. Bulls struggles came with their run game with only 59 yards on 44 carries. Rutgers transfer quarterback Cole Snyder did go 29 of 48 for 264 yards with two touchdowns but two picks. Only 5.5 yards per pass attempt. At Maryland Snyder completed 51.4% with 4.6 per attempt. Defensively Bulls did allow 504 yards to the Chanticleers with 221 rushing on 28 carries. Buffalo did surrender 283 passing yards on 25 attempts. Eastern Michigan moves to 2-1 with their 30-21 road win at Arizona St. Eagles produced 468 yards rushing for 315 yards. Taylor Powell went 10 of 14 for 83 yards and a pick. The Troy transfer is completing 66.3% of his throws with four touchdowns and five picks for 7.2 yards per pass attempt. Both teams have struggled with defending the run game. Eastern Michigan offense is doing the better job offensively with their run game at 4.6 per attempt and Conley the accurate quarterback. Play Eastern Michigan -6.
Clemson vs. Wake Forest College Football Pick Prediction 9/24/2022
Clemson at Wake Forest—Clemson is 3-0 following their 48-20 home win to Louisiana Tech. Tigers moved the football for 521 yards with a good rushing performance. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei passed for 221 yards with 7.6 per attempt. Defense smothered the Bulldogs run game but did allow 311 passing yards on 43 attempts. Wake Forest 3-0 with their 37-36 home win to Liberty. Demon Deacons gained only 346 yards in the win struggling with 21 rushing yards on 26 carries. Defensively they gave up 437 yards to the Flames. Quarterback Sam Hartman 26 of 44 for 326 yards with three touchdowns and two picks. He had a strong game at Vanderbilt. But lack of run game has been the issue for the Demon Deacons in their previous meetings. Clemson has beat Wake Forest in ten straight and all by double digits. Play Clemson -7.
UMASS vs. Temple College Football Pick Prediction 9/24/2022
UMASS at Temple—UMASS improved to 1-2 after their 20-3 home win to FCS Stony Brook behind only 264 yards. Minuteman have been blown out in their two FBS games at Toledo and Tulane. Northern Arizona transfer Gino Campiotti completing 48.6% of his passes for only 3.7 per attempt. On defense UMASS struggling against the run surrendering 5.2 per rush. Temple falls to 1-2 after their 16-14 home defeat to Rutgers. Offense generated only 264 yards but the Owls defense kept them in the game holding the Scarlet Knights to 322 yards. Owls quarterback EJ Warner is completing 64.7% of his passes with 7.6 per attempt. The best unit in this game is the Owls defense and UMASS passing offense has performed poorly. Play Temple -9.
FIU vs. Western Kentucky College Football Pick Prediction 9/24/2022
FIU at Western Kentucky—FIU drops to 1-1 after their 41-12 road defeat at Texas St. Their win came at home to an FCS Bryant and come off a bye week here. Golden Panthers run game grounded with only 26 yards on 43 carries. Quarterback Grayson James did complete 30 of 47 passes but two interceptions and only 4.2 per attempt. Western Kentucky fell to 2-1 after their 33-30 road overtime defeat at Indiana. Hilltoppers moved the football against their Big Ten opponent for 545 yards and running for 216 yards on 36 attempts. Hilltoppers performed well defensively against the Hoosiers run game. First year starting quarterback Austin Reed impressive going 33 of 43 for 329 yards and 7.7 per attempt. A 27.3% third down conversions a major concern here for FIU as is their point production at Texas St. FIU has lost their past five straight on the road by 20 or greater points. Play Western Kentucky -30.5.
Florida vs. Tennessee College Football Pick Prediction 9/24/2022
Florida at Tennessee—Florida improves to 2-1 after their 31-28 home win to USF. Offense generated only 332 yards which impacted their ability to gain separation on the Bulls. Quarterback Anthony Richardson in his past two games has gone 24 of 53 for 255 yards and four interceptions. Gators run defense surrendered 300 yards on 45 carries. Tennessee is 3-0 with their 63-6 home win to Akron behind 676 yards. Their biggest test resulted in a 34-27 road win at Pittsburgh behind 325 passing yards. Quarterback Hendon Hooker is completing 69.4% of his throws with six touchdowns, no picks and 9.9 yards per pass attempt. He had a great performance at Pittsburgh and is a threat to run. Tennessee defense will be challenged to stop the run of Florida. But quarterback performance greater and home field puts the check mark on the Vols here. Play Tennessee -10.5.
Texas vs. Texas Tech College Football Pick Prediction 9/24/2022
Texas at Texas Tech—Texas does improve to 2-1 after their 41-20 home win to UTAS. Longhorns leaned on their run game to a convincing victory rushing for 298 yards on 36 carries. They did limit run production by the Road Runners. Quarterback Hudson Card went 15 of 23 for 161 yards and a touchdown. Similar numbers to what he had against Alabama but no touchdowns throws against the Crimson Tide. Texas Tech fell to 2-1 after their 27-14 road defeat at NC State. Struggle for the Red Raiders with 54 rushing yards on 26 carries. Quarterback Donovan Smith struggled with 21 of 36 with 5.9 yards per pass attempt. He has thrown five interceptions in his two games against the FBS averaging 6 yards per attempt. Red Raiders defense has played well and so has the Longhorns. Quarterback play on both sides leaves me not confident in a point spread check mark. Play Texas and Texas Tech under 60.
Notre Dame vs. North Carolina College Football Pick Prediction 9/24/2022
Notre Dame at North Carolina—Notre Dame improved to 1-2 after their 24-17 home win to California. Only 297 yards for the Fighting Irish in victory but the defense carried the team to the win. Quarterback Drew Pyne is completing 69% of his passes but only 5.9 yards per pass attempt. North Carolina is 3-0 after their 35-28 road win at Georgia St behind 467 yards. They do have a road win at Appalachian St behind 567 yards. Quarterback Drake Maye completing 74.2% of his passes with 11 touchdowns, 1 pick and 9.6 yards per pass attempt. Defensively the Tar Heels are giving up 468 yards a game with 275 in the passing game. Notre Dame offense the major concern if they can exploit the UNC defense well enough in this road spot and can’t give them the check mark here. Play North Carolina -1.5.
Minnesota vs. Michigan St College Football Pick Prediction 9/24/2022
Minnesota at Michigan St—Minnesota is 3-0 after their 49-7 home win to Colorado. Golden Gophers rolled up 500 yards on the Buffs rushing for 334 yards. Quarterback Tanner Morgan is not being asked to do too much and that is the key to the Golden Gophers success to avoid mistakes in the passing game. Morgan has not thrown for over 19 times this season and completing 71.7% of his throws for 11.7 per attempt. The competition has been very weak though. Michigan St fell to 2-1 after their 39-28 road defeat at Washington. This was the Spartans toughest test after blowing out MAC opponents at home. Spartans poor pass defense from last season reared its ugly head allowing 397 yards on 40 attempts and four touchdowns. They did contain the Huskies rush game, but their run game struggled with 42 yards on 29 carries. Quarterback Payton Thorne did go 30 for 42 for 323 yards with three touchdowns, one pick and 7.7 yards per pass attempt. But much of it when the game was decided. First road game for the Golden Gophers and their first major test. Spartans holding teams to 2.7 yards on the ground so Morgan may have to throw in high volume in this road spot which is the concern. Play Michigan St +3.
Indiana vs. Cincinnati College Football Pick Prediction 9/24/2022
Indiana at Cincinnati—Indiana is 3-0 with their 33-30 road overtime win at home to Western Kentucky. Hoosiers moved the football for 484 yards with a pedestrian run performance. Missouri transfer quarterback Connor Bazelak is completing 56.6% of his passes with five touchdowns, two picks and 6.6 per attempt. Hoosiers defense did give up 545 yards to Western Kentucky with 216 rushing and 329 through the air on 45 attempts. Cincinnati is 2-1 after their 38-17 neutral site win against Miami Ohio behind 478 yards. Their loss came on the road at Arkansas by seven. Despite a strong defensive performance against the Red Hawks they did miss the cover. Quarterback Ben Bryant in the loss at Arkansas completed 60.5% of his throws with 7.6 per attempt. Concern is whether the Bearcats can put up a high point total on the Hoosiers to cover this number. Hoosiers offense good enough to cover this big number despite their shortcomings on defense. Play Indiana +17.
James Madison vs. Appalachian St College Football Pick Prediction 9/24/2022
James Madison at Appalachian St—James Madison improved to 2-0 after their 63-7 home win to FCS Norfolk St behind 464 yards. They opened with a 44-7 win at home to Middle Tennessee St behind 548 yards. Dukes first year quarterback Todd Centeio completing 66% of his passes with nine touchdowns and 9 yards per pass attempt. Appalachian St improved to 2-1 after their 32-28 home win to Troy behind a long touchdown pass as time expired. Good balance on offense for the Mountaineers with 456 yards. Quarterback Chase Brice a threw for 278 yards, two touchdowns and 8.2 yards per attempt. Mountaineers pass defense allowing 250 yards, 64.5% completion rate and 8.1 per attempt. James Madison jumps to FBS and was a great FCS team and will back them here. Play James Madison +7.5.
