Virginia vs. Illinois College Football Pick Prediction 9/10/2022
Virginia at Illinois—Virginia is 1-0 after their 34-17 home win to FCS Richmond. Former Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliot enters his first year as head coach at the school. Cavaliers return only four on offense and six on defense.
Quarterback Brennan Armstrong returns for his junior season. Virginia was second in the nation in passing offense with 397 yards a game and third in attempts at 47.5 throws per game. Overall offense produced 511 yards.
The defense is probably what sent Bronco Mendenhall into retirement as the team surrendered 35 points and 491 yards a game last season. Teams averaged 238 yards rushing and 6.1 yards per rush on the Cavs defense. Virginia has no returning starters on the offensive line.
Illinois is 1-1 after their 23-20 road defeat at Indiana. Fighting Illini had a balanced attack as they finished with 448 yards. Tommy DeVito hit on 21 of 35 for 232 yards with two touchdowns and a pick.
Fighting Illini struggled in pass defense in the loss surrendering 330 yards but held the Hoosiers to only 32 rushing yards on 26 carries. Illinois pass defense the concern with Virginia returning their quarterback from a high powered offense last season. Play Virginia +4.5.
Kansas vs. West Virginia College Football Pick Prediction 9/10/2022
Kansas at West Virginia—Kansas is 1-0 with their 56-10 home win to FCS Tennessee Tech behind 502 yards of offense. Lance Leipold is in his second season with the Jayhawks. Nine starters are back on offense with eight to the defense.
Dual threat quarterback Jalon Daniels won the starting job and was accurate in their win to Tennessee Tech. Jayhawks to improve their run game puled in a transfer from Minnesota and Devin Neal returns who have a good running day in the opener.
Defense is a challenge for the Jayhawks as they sat 130th in scoring defense allowing 44.7 points a game and 130th as well on third down defense. Kansas allowed 508 yards a game last year with 6.3 yards per rush and 9.4 yards per pass attempt. West Virginia fell to 0-1 with their 38-31 road defeat at Pittsburgh.
Mountaineers moved the football for 404 yards and it was balanced. JT Daniels hit 23 of 40 for 214 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. Mountaineers will have to clean up the 11 penalties.
West Virginia defended the run well but gave up 308 yards to the Pittsburgh offense with 12.8 yards per attempt. Two defenses that look a bit shaky and two offenses on the upswing. Play Kansas and West Virginia over 60.
Old Dominion vs. East Carolina College Football Pick Prediction 9/10/2022
Old Dominion at East Carolina—Old Dominion is 1-0 after their 20-17 home win to Virginia Tech. Monarchs win despite only 245 yards offensively and ten starters back on offense. Hayden Wolf went only 14 of 35 for 165 yards.
Old Dominion held the Hokies to only 3.8 yards per rush and 5.3 per pass attempt. Only 18.8% conversions on third down while the defense good getting off the field at 29.4% strops. East Carolina fell to 0-1 with their 21-20 home loss to NC State.
Field goal kicking game cost the Pirates the win with an extra point missed and short field goal missed late in the fourth quarter. Pirates rolled up 383 yards on NC State but the defense was strong against an experienced Wolf Pack team allowing only 344 yards.
Pirates have eight starters back on defense with seven on the offense. Ahlers 25 of 41 for 274 yards with two touchdowns and two picks. He has seen significant action in his four years at the school. Old Dominion lack of offense the concern in this road game.
Monarchs had struggles on the road last year losing by 32 at Wake Forest and 28 at Liberty. A pair of seven points losses at UTEP and Marshall. Play East Carolina -12.
UAB vs. Liberty College Football Pick Prediction 9/10/2022
UAB at Liberty—UAB moved to 1-0 with their 59-0 home win to Alabama A&M putting up 478 yards. Bryant Vincent is in his first season with the Blazers taking over for the retired Bill Clark due to medical. Vincent was the offensive coordinator.
Quarterback Dylan Hopkins had a productive opening game. Blazers ran nearly twice as many times as they passed last year. UAB averaged 4.7 yards on the ground. Defensively UAB held opponents to 25.2 points a game holding opponents to only 3.2 per rush and 59.2% completion rate.
Liberty is 1-0 after their 29-27 road overtime win at Southern Miss. Flames did pile up 447 yards on the Golden Eagles defense. Flames are without starting quarterback Charlie Brewer with a broken thumb. His backup was ineffective and third string Kaidon Salter and completed the game winning two point conversion.
Salter went 8 of 13 for 148 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. Third stringer under center will expect the Flames to keep it on the ground and try and work field position. Their defense held opponents to 21 points and 320 yards a game last year. They did add transfers to fill the holes. Play UAB and Liberty under 50.

Massachusetts vs. Toledo College Football Pick Prediction 9/10/2022
UMASS at Toledo—UMASS falls to 0-1 on the season with the 42-10 road defeat at Tulane. Minutemen offense produced only 217 yards in defeat. Brady Olson completed only 2 of 5 passes for five yards and a touchdown. Gino Campiotti 2 of 6 for 12 yards and two interceptions.
This is a team returning eight starters on offense and defense. They ran for 200 yards but with 58 attempts for about 3 yards per attempt. The UMASS defense allowed 369 yards to the Green Wave but five yards per rush attempt on the ground.
The Minutemen return eight starters on offense and defense for a team that averaged 15.4 points a game and surrendered 44.7 points a season ago. Toledo is 1-0 after their 37-8 home win to FCS Long Island. Rockets produced 442 yards rushing for 4.9 yards a carry.
Returning quarterback Dequan Finn hit on 21 of 28 for 216 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. Rockets return seven starters on offense and eight to the defense. Team pushed across 32 points a game last year and defensively held opponents to 23. They need to improve on a 103rd ranking offensively on third down.
The ground game was effective with 5.4 yards per attempt and defensively holding teams to 3.8. Accuracy at the quarterback position needs to be better than 57.3%. Toledo defense held opponents to 56.3%. Rockets have three starters back on the offensive line and their front seven experienced.
This is the key to the game is keeping the Minutemen off the board to cover this big number. Back to back road games for UMASS. They pounded the Minutemen on the road last year 45-7 gaining 455 yards and holding the Minutemen to 134 yards. Play Toledo -28.
Northern Illinois at Tulsa College Football Pick Prediction 9/10/2022
Northern Illinois at Tulsa—Northern Illinois is 1-0 after beating FCS Eastern Illinois 34-27 behind 379 yards of offense. The Huskies are experienced on both sides of the field returning nine starters on offense and defense.
Returning quarterback Rocky Lombardi went 14 of 22 for 192 yards and a touchdowns. He showed improvement as NIU’s starter in 2021 transferring from Michigan St. Lombardi has most of his playmakers and four starters on the offensive line with a run game averaging 5.1 yards per rush.
Huskies pushed across 31.5 points a game sitting third in the nation in rushing offense with 238 yards a game. Defense needs to improve for NIU giving up 35 points a game, 43% completions and 5.9 yards per pass attempt.
Tulsa falls to 0-1 after their 40-37 road overtime loss to an inexperienced Wyoming team. Golden Hurricane loses despite gaining 521 yards. Six starters returned on offense and defense for Tulsa. Fifth year senior quarterback Davis Brin hit on 30 of 52 for 460 yards and three touchdowns.
The run game sputtered in defeat with 61 yards on 32 carries. Tulsa averaged offense and defense last season scoring and allowing 27 points a game. Offensively they moved the football for 441 yards and averaged 8 yards per pass attempt. Defensively they held teams to 57.3% completion rate and 4.1 yards per rush.
In the loss to the Cowboys Tulsa surrendered 8.5 yards per pass attempt and gave up four sacks. Golden Hurricane inexperienced on the offensive and defensive line and that is the concern here laying almost a touchdown. Play Northern Illinois +6.
Eastern Michigan vs. Louisiana College Football Pick Prediction 9/10/2022
Eastern Michigan at Louisiana—Eastern Michigan is 1-0 with their 42-34 home win to Eastern Kentucky. The team put up 395 yards in the win but were outgained surrendering 492 yards with 351 yards in the passing game. Eagles returning eight starters on offense and six to the defense.
Eastern Michigan moved the football for 378 yards and averaged 30 points a game. The run game generated only 3.3 yards a carry but 10th in the nation with a completion rate of 68% and limited turnovers. Defense was lacking for the Eagles giving up 31 points and near the bottom of college football on third down.
They gave up 450 yards a game with 5.2 yards per rush and 8 yards per pass attempt. Eagles rushed for only 3.8 yards a carry on their FCS opponent and allowed five yards per attempt with 68.6% completion rate. Quarterback Taylor Powell effective against Eastern Kentucky hitting 21 of 30 for 271 yards with a touchdown and pick.
Louisiana opened at home with FCS Southeast Louisiana and win 24-7 gaining 374 yards. It was a good defensive performance by the Ragin Cajuns allowing 261 yards with 4.3 yards per pass attempt. Louisiana returns six starters on offense with five to the defense. Ragin Cajuns experienced in the backfield and at the quarterback position.
Chandler Fields in his debut at quarterback hit on 13 of 20 for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Louisiana averaged 31 points a game last season running for 202 yards and 4.9 yards per rush. Only 212 passing yards per game. Strong defensive season by the Ragin Cajuns holding teams to 18 points and 328 yards per game.
They gave up only 4.8 yards per play good for 15th in the nation. First year quarterback and inexperienced defense is the concern laying double digits here. Eastern Michigan experience at quarterback leads to a cover here. Play Eastern Michigan +12.
Kentucky vs. Florida College Football Pick Prediction 9/10/2022
Kentucky at Florida—Kentucky is 1-0 after their 37-13 home win to Miami Ohio. It was a strong defensive performance by the Wildcats allowing Red Hawks just 290 yards. Quarterback Will Levis effective hitting on 21 of 32 for 303 yards with three touchdowns and a pick.
Their top running back Chris Rodriguez was suspended and the team averaged only 2 yards a carry on the ground against a MAC team on 25 carries. Florida is 1-0 after their impressive 29-26 home win to Utah. Gators moved the football for 452 yards in the win against a good defensive team.
Florida had success running the football for 284 yards on 38 carries. Anthony Richardson hit on 17 of 24 for 168 yards. He ran it 11 times for 106 yards and three touchdowns. Florida averaged 7.5 yards a carry on the Utes defense but allowed on defense 5.9 yards per rush.
Wildcats may be one dimensional here without their star running back. Quarterback was effective at home against a good defensive team. Play Kentucky and Florida over 52.5 points.
