Houston Cougars vs Texas Tech Red Raiders 9/10/2022 Picks Predictions Previews

The Houston Cougars will meet with the Texas Tech Red Raiders at Jones AT&T Stadium, TX on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 4:00 PM ET.

The Red Raiders defeated Murray State 63-10 at home to improve to 1-0 on the season. Texas Tech totaled 605 yards of offense while only surrendering 258. For the Red Raiders, three different quarterbacks saw action.

After starting the game and completing 6 of 10 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown, senior Tyler Shough was forced to leave due to a shoulder injury.

In place of Shough, sophomore Donovan Smith completed all but two of his 16 pass attempts for 221 yards and four touchdowns.

Midway through the third quarter, freshman Behren Morton entered the game and completed 7 of his 10 throws for 97 yards, a score, and an interception.

After missing the final nine games of 2021, Shough was ruled out for at least two games. Smith, though, is more than adequate after alternating time with Henry Colombi last season while Sough was out.

Coincidentally, Colombi, who transferred in January, is now Marshall’s starting quarterback. In his first season, Smith completed 61.2% of his throws for 1181 yards and seven touchdowns.

  • The total went OVER in 8 of the team’s previous 12 matches.
  • The Houston Cougars are 13-1 SU in their last 14 games.
  • Houston is 1-4 ATS in their previous 5 meetups against the Red Raiders.

Houston Cougars vs Texas Tech Red Raiders Predictions 9/10/2022

Week 1 at Houston was very different from Week 1 at Texas Tech. After trailing by 14 points going into the fourth quarter, the Cougars defeated UT San Antonio in triple overtime.

Late in the game, Houston grabbed a 24-21 lead, but UTSA gained 55 yards in the final 23 seconds to tie the game with a 37-yard field goal. After UTSA missed the two-point conversion in the third OT, the final score was 37-35.

After a 13-yard run, Houston’s quarterback Clayton Tune leaped over a defender to score the game’s final touchdown.

Tune threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns on 22 of his 32 completions. He ran for 51 yards and the winning touchdown in overtime. The top receiver was Nathaniel Dell, who had five grabs for 50 yards and two scores.

  • The total went UNDER in 4 of Texas Tech’s last 5 games against the Cougars.
  • The total went OVER in 4 of the team’s last 6 matches at home.
  • The Texas Tech Red Raiders are 4-1 SU in their last 5 contests against an opponent in the American Athletic Conference.

Houston Cougars vs Texas Tech Red Raiders. The NCAAF pick for this game is the Houston Cougars. Following a crushing victory over a Football Championship Subdivision team, Texas Tech is a small home favorite.

The Red Raiders should not be significantly harmed by the loss of their primary quarterback, but it’s still a shocking defeat that gives the Cougars the advantage.

Despite a scare against UTSA, Houston, who entered the season ranked 25th in the AP pool and 24th in the coaches poll, managed to win.

That game, in which Houston was only a four-point favorite, was anticipated to be close, just as the spread predicts this one will be. The Houston Cougars are anticipated to win by a predicted score of 35-30.
