West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh College Football Pick Prediction 9/1/2022
West Virginia at Pittsburgh—Neil Brown enters his fourth season at West Virginia. Team finished at 6-7 a season ago losing 18-6 to Minnesota in their bowl game. Mountaineers return seven on offense and four to the defensive side of the football.
Team will look to Georgia transfer JT Daniels at quarterback. Graham Harrell is now the offensive coordinator at West Virginia so fast tempo passing game style will be implemented. West Virginia returns all five to the offensive line and under this new passing style won have to hold their blocks as long.
Mountaineers looked to JUCO and Division one transfers to stock their defense. Pat Narduzzi enters his eighth season at Pitt. Seven starters on offense and defense return.
Kenny Pickett exits the program for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But the Panthers fill his spot with USC transfer Kedon Slovis. He will have all five offensive linemen back from last season. Pittsburgh was an outstanding defensive team last season ranking 18th nationally in yards allowed per play.
Sixth in rushing defense and held opposing ball carriers to 2.6 yards a carry. Teams were able to throw on the Panthers. Passing game keeps the Mountaineers close enough here. Play West Virginia +7.5.
Central Michigan vs. Oklahoma St College Football Pick Prediction 9/1/2022
Central Michigan vs. Oklahoma St—Jim McElwain returns for his fourth season at Central Michigan. The program finished at 9-4 last year and defeated Washington St in the Sun Bowl. Seven starters return on offense but only four to the defense.
The offense has balance and the teams leading ground gainer from 2021 returns in back Lew Nichols. He ran the ball 341 yards last year. Daniel Richardson returns for his sophomore season under center. He led a passing game sitting 27th in the nation with 267 yards per game.
Central Michigan was good defensively in 2021 ranking eighth on third down and held opposing ball carriers to 3.5 yards per carry. But teams were able to move the ball through the air against the Chippewas for 280 yards. But the front seven lacks experience for a team that led the nation in sacks last year.
Mike Gundy enters his 18th season at Oklahoma St. Team went 12-2 last year and beat Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Seven starters return on offense with only four on defense. Quarterback Spencer Sanders is back along with four starters on offensive line.
Two key playmakers exit in running back Jaylen Warren and receiver Tay Martin. The defensive line is experience for the Cowboys but only one starter in the back seven. Too much lost on defense to lay over three touchdowns here.
Oklahoma St was a top ten defense on third down, yards per play, rushing yardage, total yardage and points allowed. Hard to replicate with the players exiting. Chippewas are no pushovers under McElwain. Play Central Michigan +21.5.
Ball St vs. Tennessee College Football Pick Prediction 9/1/2022
Ball St at Tennessee—Mike Neu returns for his seventh season at Ball St. Team went 6-7 in 2021 getting blown out against Georgia St in their bowl game. Cardinals return seven starters on offense and five to the defense. John Paddock to start at quarterback. He has small size under six foot.
Three starters return to the line as do two receivers and starting running back. Offense took a tumble in 2021 ranking 93rd in scoring, 107th in yardage and at 4.8 yards per play good for 113th in the nation. The run game produced only 3.7 yards per carry.
Defensively the Cardinals allowed 29 points with 418 yards per game. They struggled to get off the field on third down and surrendered 185 rushing yards. Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel returns for his second season.
Volunteers finished 7-6 last season losing to Purdue 48-45 in their bowl game. The team returns eight starters on offense and seven to the defense. Senior quarterback Hendon Hooker returns along with the Vols leading rusher. Hooker is a run threat who averaged 4.9 yards per carry.
Top receiver is back and the Volunteers used the transfer portal to stock their playmakers. Defensively the team needs improvement inside the red zone where they ranked 119th. Volunteers saw their point production improve last season as they averaged 38 points a game.
They were top ten nationally on third down and total yards. They averaged five yards a carry on the ground and 9.1 yards per pass attempt. Back on November 29th they faced mid-major South Alabama at home and crushed them 60-14. Play Tennessee -35.
Penn St vs. Purdue College Football Pick Prediction 9/1/2022
Penn St at Purdue—James Franklin is in his ninth season at Penn St. Nittany Lions finished at 7-6 last season losing 24-10 to Arkansas in their bowl game. Seven starters return on offense for Penn St with four to the defense. Senior Sean Clifford return under center for his senior season.
Two starters are back on the offensive line with many of his playmakers back. Offense struggled a season ago as the Nittany Lions averaged 23.9 points a game with 365 yards. But quarterback Clifford was injured. They were 105th in the nation in yards per play plus at 3.3 yards per carry on the ground it was 115th nationally.
The offensive line provided poor quarterback protection. Team was sixth defensively allowing 17.3 points a game and only 4.6 yards per play good for eleventh in the nation. Jeff Brohm is in his sixth season with Purdue. Seven starters return on offense and defense.
The Boilermakers finished 9-4 in 2021 and beat Tennessee 48-45 in the Music City Bowl. Aiden O’Connell returns under center. An accurate passer that averaged 72% completion rate. His top running back returns but gone are his top three receivers. Three starters return to the offensive line.
Purdue held opponents to only 22.4 points a game in 2021 doing a good job on third down and allowing only 209 yards passing. Offensive line the concern for the Nittany Lions and opening up on the road won’t help things. Play Purdue +3.5.

Opponents rushed for 222 yards on Missouri for 5.1 yards a carry. Tigers tried to fix these issues in the transfer portal. Tough to ask Missouri to cover almost three touchdowns. Play Louisiana Tech +20.5.
New Mexico St vs. Minnesota College Football Pick Prediction 9/1/2022
New Mexico St at Minnesota—Jerry Kill is in his first season with the Aggies. Four starters on offense return with only nine on defense. They fell to 0-1 on the season with the 23-12 home defeat to Nevada. The run game produced only 85 yards on 25 carries against a Wolf Pack team in total rebuild.
Both quarterbacks combined for four interceptions. Kill is a defensive minded coach that has built good defensive teams and ran the football on offense. PJ Fleck returns for his sixth season at Minnesota. Team finished at 9-4 last season beating West Virginia in their bowl game.
Team returns six starters on offense and defense. Tanner Morgan is back for his senior season at quarterback for the Golden Gophers. He completed just 59% of his passes last year and surprised he is still starting. He has definitely held back this program.
Golden Gophers have been hit hard by injuries at the running back in recent seasons. There is depth there but only one starter returns on the offensive line. Gophers defense solid last year holding opponents to 17 points and 278 yards per game.
Teams averaged only 3.4 yards a carry on this Golden Gophers defense with 6.4 yards per pass attempt. New Mexico St will struggle to get points on Minnesota. Expect the Golden Gophers to keep it on the ground here against a weak opponent. Play New Mexico St and Minnesota under 53.

BYU a season ago surrendered 24.7 points and 389 yards a game. Jeff Scott returns for his third season at South Florida. The team went 2-10 and hasn’t made a bowl game since 2018. Team does return ten starters to the offense and nine defensively.
Gerry Bohanon, a Baylor transfer, expected to start at quarterback. In his twelve starts a 63% completion rate with 18 touchdowns and seven picks. Biggest challenge for USF is improving a defense that allowed 476 yards sitting 123rd in college football.
Opponents put up 35 points a game on the Bulls. USF defensive line gets help with transfer but stick with their starters from last year in the secondary.
USF 7-0 to the over in their past seven game where they allowed at least 28 points. Bohanon an upgrade at quarterback and USF will play faster this season. Play BYU and USF over 58.5.

Texas St at Nevada—Texas St finished 4-8 in 2021 and missed a bowl game. Head coach Jake Spavital is in his fourth season. The Bobcats return nine starters to the offense with five on defense. Arkansas St transfer Layne Hatcher is under center and improves this position from a year ago.
Offensive line returns four starters plus their top two running back including Calvin Hill who averaged 5.6 yards per attempt. The defense a season ago gave up 32 points 430 yards a game in the bottom quartile of college football. Team was 114th in the nation getting off the field on third down.
Nevada is an inexperienced team returning only two starters on offense and four on defense for first year head coach Ken Wilson. Former head coach Jay Norvell exited for Colorado St and took many of his players with him. They opened play lost week at New Mexico St and came away with a 23-12 win.
They built up a 17-0 halftime lead but finished the game with only 78 passing yards. The run game generated 179 yards on 45 rushing attempts. Neither transfer Illingworth nor Cox were impressive under center.
They got production on the ground and defensively. Nevada has the benefit of a game under their belt. Expect the Wolf Pack to continue the ground attack here. Play Texas St and Nevada under 51.5.
