With a victory in the Peach Bowl, Michigan State finished with an overall record of 11-2. On the Michigan State side, they were able to compete admirably in the extremely difficult Big 10 previous season.

Overall, the Spartans were 11-2 and 7-2 in conference action. As a result, Michigan State slipped behind Ohio State and fellow juggernauts Michigan in the East Division’s standings.

With an 8-0 run, Michigan State had a strong start to the season. The Spartans would go on to drop two of their subsequent three contests, losing to Purdue 40-29 and Ohio State 56-7.
