Despite a better start to the year and an upgraded pitching staff, Baltimore is once again in last place in the AL East. Regrettably for Baltimore, they play in what is perhaps baseball’s most competitive division.

Aside from the Yankees, who are on pace to reach 50 wins before the end of the season, the remaining three clubs are all over.500 and have a positive double-digit run differential.

After a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday, Baltimore is at 30-38. The Orioles already won two out of three games against the reigning AL East champions. The Orioles won 2-1 thanks to Anthony Santander’s home run and a bullpen game.

Despite the Orioles not having named a starter as of this writing, Jordan Lyles is expected to start on Tuesday. Lyles was unable to play on Sunday due to a gastrointestinal condition, but he should be fully recovered after taking an extra day off on Monday.

With four quality starts this year, Lyles is tied for the club lead in quality starts and innings thrown. The Orioles went 1-2 in Lyles’ previous three appearances, with the right-hander going 5 innings in two and 5.1 innings in the other.
