Elvin Rodriguez will make his third appearance of the season for the Tigers. Rodriguez faltered in his two major-league starts this season, giving up four runs in 2.2 innings against the White Sox and four runs in five innings against the Twins earlier this week.

The youngster was not projected to make the big league squad this year, but injuries provided him with an opportunity.

At 22.2 innings pitched in Toledo, Rodriguez had a 3.57 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. The Tigers have a 5-5 record in their previous ten games, including a 4-3 win in the series opener on Thursday.

Despite multiple injuries, they were able to sweep the Orioles in their recent home series and continue to enjoy excellent pitching. Spencer Torkelson is beginning to carve out a niche for himself at the plate.

In his previous six games, the former first overall choice has six hits and is reaching base through walks. Overall, it was a letdown season for a hitter who was anticipated to be a star. He only has four home runs and 11 RBIs this season. Torkelson went 0 for 9 in his career against Cleveland.
