The Cardinals rallied in the eighth inning to tie the game, and their bullpen was outstanding in forcing extra innings.

Genesis Cabrerra prevented the Blue Jays from bringing in their phantom runner, allowing Goldschmidt to perform his magic. The veteran first baseman had a fantastic season thus far and was particularly hot of late, and he delivered in the clutch with a dramatic walk-off grand slam to secure the game.

St. Louis was playing exceptionally well, overcoming adversity and producing excellent performances from guys who weren’t even projected to make the club in the first place.

St. Louis’ Jordan Hicks takes the mound to complete the two-game set. Before undergoing Tommy John’s surgery and missing the greater part of 3 years, Hicks was one of the game’s most outstanding relievers.

After regaining his health, injuries forced him into service to stretch out and rejoin the starting rotation. He’s pitched to a 4.21 ERA despite making the difficult shift. His strikeout percentage remained steady at 24.1 percent, but his major issue was his lack of control, as he has a 13.9 percent walk rate. His 1.21 WHIP is still respectable, and he’s coming closer to being able to handle a full starting workload, as he recently surpassed 80 pitches for the first time.
